Default Question about passion for life

I have recently seen several threads about people not knowing what direction to go in life. I'm in the same boat. I'm now in my thirties, and as far as my job goes I'm at a dead end. I could probably stay where I'm at for the next 30 years, and make a stable living, but I do not see my income increasing over inflation.

I don't want to just quit my job and start a new one. I want to find out what my passions are, and even if it is possible for me to be passionate about a career. So I want to know how many people hear are really passionate about a current career or or working toward a career they feel passionate about. Also if something helped you find your passion please let us know what it was.

I'm passionate about women's rights. Especially the right to choose reproductive status. I'm working on being accepted into a MPH program so I can work with communities to lower the teen birthrate. Yay, passionate, high-burnout work!

I figured this all out slowly, some by myself, some by talking with my shrink. I know people who have greatly benefited from a life coach. Perhaps that might be an option?

The ultimate thing about misery, is that when you ARE miserable, you really don't know it.

I was working on my business, I was working on my marriage, I was working on my family, I was working on my other business. Everything needed my attention, from the high paying client to the wife who didn't find me attractive. I had no time to relax. I was simply masking my misery by moving from one job to another, never relaxing and just living on the short pleasures, like fattening food, video games, television, etc etc etc.

Then I realized I couldn't fit in a crawl space.

I withdrew from life. I needed to re-invent my passion for it.

And here I am, I have a kid on the way who will have a fantastic mother. I am stable. I still have my hang ups. But I'm not validating to others anymore and I'm not afraid to sacrifice my own happiness at any cost. Though at times, it costs a lot. All because life is mine, and I want for those around me to have no less than what I want for myself. Happiness.
People are not ruled by their memories.

Thanks Roz a life coach may not be a bad idea. I feel a little like the lyrics to that Pink Floyd song "No one told you when to run you missed the starting gun."

Mast I have tried to invent my passion for life, but it has not worked yet.

I always wonder why people are so concerned about the future. Perhaps I am looking at it the wrong way, but I think that people should focus more on enjoying the present. I pretty much do what makes me happy now (within reason, of course). You will die in the end, and when you are laying there on your deathbed, wouldnt it be nice to think about all the happy times you had, rather than how you were always miserable trying to make your future better? The future may never come! Doing things that makes me happy also means that my passion will find me eventually. *shrug*
    Just my opinion.

You need to plan ahead, otherwise one day the future will be the present and you will be fucked!

Right now I'm doing what I love and I feel good in this moment. But my passion comes and goes. I have a lot of water in my nature. I find it really hard to stay committed to any path for long. That's my biggest fear.

I didn't answer the poll because there was not a choice that really fit me. I tend to live in the present moment. I appreciate what I have and where I am.

That being said I do have plans and goals for the future. I just don't focus on 5 years from now. Each day I try to focus on what I need to accomplish today. If I accomplish these things each day then in 5 years I will be where I had planned to be.

This took some re-learning on my part. When I was younger I wanted and wanted. I was very impatient. Problem was I spent so much time and energy focusing on what I wanted that I continuously failed to accomplish all the little things I needed to in order to reach my goals.

Now, I just concentrate all my energy on the moment. I now complete those little things I need to accomplish. I have become more successful for it.

    Just food for thought.

I couldn't answer the poll because it would not allow me to pick 2.

    I want to pick
    1. I know what I want and can't wait to get it
    4. I am unhappy with my current situation.

Here! Here! We're in the same exact place!

...But I did vote that I am passionate about life, and just can't freakin' wait to get it!
