Default Please tell me if this is irresponsible

I got ringworm from my cat, little soil frolicker that he is. I discovered it extremely early because I'm such a hypochondriac, and I've seen it before when i worked for a vet. Like, I found it before you could hardly even see a red ring, let alone any scabbing. So I got the cream from a doctor the next day (I found it Saturday night, and saw the doctor Sunday morning). I've been medicating it since then, and it's almost invisible by now.

I've given it a few days to make sure it didn't show up anywhere else on my person, and my cat and I have been medicating since then. Is it safe to unquarantine myself at this point? Could I go into work tomorrow with a little bandage covering the spot, and be okay to dance? The doctor told me not to worry too much about contagiousness, since this little case of it would only be transferrable from direct skin-to-skin contact. So if I'm dancing for a guy, and I'm especially modest this week so that they can't touch my shoulder, I should be okay right? I mean, I'm going to have a bandage covering it anyway.

I don't want to go into work and spread communicable disease, but I think this is a reasonable plan? Thoughts?

Just ask your custies to be careful and don't touch your shoulder...if they ask why, tell them you just got a tetanus shot and it's sore. Or something like that. Only the biggest asshole will make a point of touching your shoulder after you tell him not to...and if he's that type, he deserves a nice hearty case of ringworm.

Hahaha, that's exactly what I was going to say!

Go to work. If anyone touches your ringworm spot after you ask 'em not to, they deserve to get it.

You're fine, Mollyzmoon. After 48 hours of treatment, ringworm is no longer contagious. So you wouldn't even need to bandage it.

No one gets a tetanus shot on the shoulder. I would just say that you ran into something and you have a small cut and it's really sore. Explaning the bandaid and soreness of the area.

But, really, you don't even need to do that.

Thats what I thought. I would cover it in case people start asking "whats that " either way it might not be avoidable depending on how visible the ring is. Good thing you are no longer contagious.

you know what I mean. A cut, a scrape, a shot, some kind of explanation for a bandage/not wanting to be touched there...other than "I've got ringworm".

Just tell them your cat scratched you there. Mine have done it before.

Yea i would not worry about it now too much. My daughter had it when she was very young, but... the Doc. said until it's gone you may still be contagious. It only took about 5 days it was gone, she was on a cream.

If you can still see it, perhaps put a bandaid over it, so no one asks or you worry. It's just safer for everyone.

dude, I'd wait, 'cos I'd be kinda pissed off if I got ringworm from a lapdance or something, you know? it's like babysitting when you're recovering from pink eye. sure, you can get around it, but it's bad bad BAD form.

^^^That's the thing though...I was assured by a doctor that it's no longer considered a contagious threat. It's barely visible...I have to really look for it, so it's pretty well gone now. I'll put a bandaid on it, tell them it's sore, and that should be alright. It's been almost a week of medication, so I think I'm good.

If you go in, be sure not to touch that shoulder to the pole, floor, chair, etc...either. If you are still contagious....it can be transferred by you touching something, then someone else touching it.

^^Actually, the doctor said that was impossible. I asked him specifically about that, but he said I'd be totally fine, except for actually rubbing direct skin to skin contact. It could just be that it's such a minor case of it. But yeah, it'll be bandaged anyway.

It may be if it is a mild case...but it IS technically possible with ringworm()

so I'd say...be careful anyway...just in case. You never know!Plus you dont want to touch the shoulder to the chair, then your hand to the chair then to your face....and get ringworm on your face y'know?? WOnt make it feel any better when the Dr goes "well how about that...would've though that was impossible"..LOLOLOL!!!

Ugh! I wish everyone was as cautious as you!
Our club totally had some ringworm going around a few weeks ago.
I had it in high school when I dated a wrestler, but to get it as a dancer? Poor form.
I do think you are being responsible though, you caught it early, one week of medicine, plus band-aid and extra caution? I think you're good.

yuck. i had it once... i think i caught it from a customer. my doctor told me that once the treatment is under way, i'm not contagious any more. i actually did a massive amount of web research and a lot of it was contradictory anyway.

you're lucky you only had a little bit... mine was all over my stomach i looked like a bloody leper!

Ok..this is gross, but fuck..I was subjected to it so....(LOL)

When I was a vet tech we had a client that was dumb as a box of rocks. Seriously..I dont know how this chick showered without drowning..she was THAT stupid.

Well...at least she was smart enough to bring her pup to a vet...though she would have been better off if she had actually LISTENED.

She had a chow puppy that somehow got ringworm. We gave her the meds for it and told her NOT to touch it because she would catch it.

well...a week later, back in she comes for a checkup. Pup looks better, but she says now she has a problem and can she ask a question? Sure. She LIFTS UP HER SKIRT....she is COVERED in ringworm all over her thighs creeping up to her crotch(thankfully we stopped her before she took her panties off)

We asked how the HELL that happened??

Yeah....she took a bath with her ringworm infested puppy.

What...the...fuck? My goodness...that is pretty stupid. Unless she thought that by taking a bath with the puppy, but not touching the ringworm, she'd be fine...because you know, water is a terrible carrier of anything. LOL I'll be she got in that bath with rubber gloves!!! haahaa

I had a case about a year ago and I grilled the doctor to a) be certain I hadn't gotten it at work and b) be certain I couldn't have been passing it on. She seemed damn confident that neither was the case, so I don't think you're being irresponsible at all. Be happy topical medication is taking care of it; I had to take pills which, if I didn't have great insurance, would have cost $750.

Sucks though; hope it's all gone soon.
