Default What's your honest opinion about pole dancing?

Do custys really give a flying fig about what we do on the pole?
Do they really chose who they want to dance for them based on acrobatics?
Would they be just as happy if there wasn't stage dancing and lap dances only?
Or is pole dancing just another form of women needing to compete against each other?
    Seriously, what's the point?

It probably used to be alot more important than it is now. The Pole is like the mascot for strip clubs, but it seems as if it's a lost art. I'm sure some customers really appreciate good pole work, but some clubs are even poleless. I'm glad it's not a requirement b/c I suck at the pole.

Some do appreciate pole tricks, some don't. Just like some girls enjoy the challenge of learning pole tricks and others don't see the point. I think you can judge that on a club by club basis. Some clubs are known for their pole dancers (in Portland for example).

I love doing pole work. I enjoy the challenge. I like practicing after work. I don't do tricks solely for some payoff. Although I think my ability on the pole attracts people to my stage MOST of the time and helps with tips. But yeah, sometimes I'm up there doing some crazy tricks and I feel like I'm getting the "yeah, big deal" vibe. If it seems like no one really cares sometimes I won't either - I won't do a lot of tricks. But mostly I do them because I enjoy doing them and hell, I find it more entertaining FOR MYSELF while I'm up there. my pole work gives me confidence which shows in my stage sets.

If you wanna learn tricks great. If you don't I don't think it necessarily hurts you. As long as you have something to offer (stage presence, amazing body, luck, etc, etc, etc) AND the crowd isn't completely zombied out you'll make money.

and better no tricks than poorly executed ones.

I can do some stuff, but wtf for. It has never made me great $. Plus with no health insurance and club $ being as bad as it can be why risk falling on my head and breaking my neck?

Its great exercise and shows amazing aristic skill. The customers that spend mad money on you dont care about pole tricks though, what they want is personal attention. If you can combine the two "personal attention, and amazing stage presence," you have gold! anyway you look at it!

I personally love pole tricks and love expanding my library of well-done tricks. I throw a few in the mix for an 'oooooh' factor and they can be entertaining. Even if you suck at pole, a lot of people see the pole as having inherent sex factor due to it's association with naked chicks. Grab the brass and gyrate a bit. It's appreciated.

I agree that some guys do appreciate pole dancing - while others just don't seem to appreciate what goes into it.
But what I find really interesting is how with the emergence of pole dancing as a stand alone art form, somehow some seem to have mixed up "good pole dancer" with "good striptease artist". ie they have forgotten the art of dancing and stripping and think that pure pole acrobatics = a great striptease. Both can go together but I think the foundation is dancing and stripping. Pole is a nice added extra.

I love to work the pole but it is not necessary. As another poster stated it used to be an essential. I have talked to dancers that have been in the biz for 20 years and they say everyone used to have to know how to do fantastic pole work. It was part of the job. Makes me wish I could go back in time and dance 20 years ago.

It's funny because we don't have a pole on main stage but we have these teeny tiny side stages that have a pole. So no one knows any pole tricks. But guys get so desperate that girls have been known to get $20-$50 just to climb to the top of it. No pole tricks.

I wish I knew more pole tricks, and I really want to get a pole so I can learn in private (because learning isn't sexy). But they don't seem to make big money. On a busy night though, with a lot of people not tipping, a girl that does a lot of pole work seems to bring people to the stage. And as much as I admire the girls that climb to the very top, then flip upsidedown...I don't have health insurance or workers comp. and that 25 foot fall is gonna fuck me up hard.

My honest opinion? I rock the pole. I can do tricks no one has seen before and that makes me feel awesome. I usually do more when I am bored and not getting tipped. But I have a few where I can actually incorporate the custies into the trick. I either land right by them or am able to keep eye contact through the trick. They might not all love pole tricks, but they love me so I guess they're tolerated.. ha ha

Pole tricks aren't a NECESITY, even in a city like Portland, which is massively stage centered... However, they CAN be good for bringing in more money/interest. Its MY secret weapon, particularly with Oregon Liquor laws that forbid me from hustling the floor till I turn 21. Nice neat pole trick, applause, a couple drive by tippers who I can talk into staying up to keep me company... I'll take it! Its DEFINITELY helped my money.

But then, I also LOVE the polework. I really want to practice at home. And RE the massive drop... don't EVER try a trick when you're unsure about where your weight is being cought, of if the pool feels too slick. Common sense. But then, I've only REALLY fallen once. Maybe I'm just really optimistic.

SO true! I don't do pole tricks, but we have one girl at my club who does a bunch but they look so sloppy. I'd much rather see a dancer move sensually than clumsily!

I think being able to look graceful on the pole for basics is absolutely essential. Being able to do tricks, doesn't mean squat though. I know a lot of younger girls are probably gonna argue that looking graceful isn't even important, but that is why some girls make squat while some other women will bank. Details, details, details, this business is allllllll about the details.

Depends on where you are. NTD is right, even in PDX it isn't a necessity. But it does help. I have been to a few places where the stage is still an important factor and guys do watch the show, either because it's a focal point of the club or because there aren't any or any decent private dances. In places like that polework is helpful. But that doesn't mean you have to be amazing on it; even being able to do some cool spins is good.

It's all about whether or not the stage is a focus -- but, of course, presence and approachability is everything. That's why some girls can just strut and reel them in, and others can walk on their hands and not get tipped.

It looks awful when you do it and you don't know what you are doing.

If you are going to do it, make sure you have practiced and can do it as well as the best.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Do unto others as you would have them do to you...it's less work to be nice than it is to be evil!

It's got to look graceful, hell dancing has to look graceful! I hate it when girls climb the pole and make it look strenuous, it's a tlalent we are supposed to make it look easy!
I was luck and was able to practice at my first club after hours, I wish more girls would try to do that, instead of falling during a set, it's so not sexy when an inexperienced dancer slams down on the stage doing a spin. Practice practice practice and you can make it look sexy!

I'm with some of the other girls on this one. I love doing pole tricks, and I love watching other girls do pole tricks, but it's definitely not necessary. I don't notice a difference in $$ when I do them or not. But whatever, thats not why I do them!

There's a girl at my club (on here) who is amazing on the pole. Like, she doesn't just do badass pole tricks, but she does them perfectly in time with the music and she shows a lot of passion in her stage shows. I think THAT brings in more interest/money. Not "o hai guise im a pole robot lulz" but like, "I am a master at my art."

never tried it. I mainly work in a club without a pole, but when i've worked at clubs with them, I ignore it. and i make good $$ on stage.
