Default Instead of what you are getting....

I have been hearing a lot of "Hey, what are you getting or what do you want for Christmas?" What about trying what are you giving instead. I have everything I need, not everything I want but what I must have for survival. My grandmother and I were discussing going up to a local children's home and taking toys to the children there. A few people in my class at school were talking about serving at the homeless shelter.

Eh there are enough people that like to give. Esp. on here! Lots of threads lately about what to get people.

I think charity is nice, but I also refuse to feel obligated just bc it's Xmas time.

Maybe it was the time I volunteered at a homeless shelter on Thxgiving. I was 13 and hit on repeatedly by smellly individuals......

I read that there are enough t-shirts in the USA to clothe Africa like one billion times over...same's probably true for cheapy made-in-China toys.....

Call me cynical! I love giving. Have some ideas, but I'll tell ya ALL of them are going to be wrapped up xtra gorgeous! That's my fave part!

....Oh but the trees with the ornaments of a kid's name and a wishlist always get to me tho.

I will definitely be sending hot soup and jelly doughnuts to Israeli soldiers on patrol like I do every Chanukah, through . And I think a few of my Xmas presents are going to be through .

My high school boyfriend and I used to deliver Meals on Wheels every day on school breaks, and the Christmas that we were dating we went out to deliver Meals on Wheels on Christmas morning. We spent a little extra time with it and chatted with the homebound old folks and made sure they had enough blankets and stuff. It was a great day and I really enjoyed it. I'd do it again this year since we're going to be in Memphis, but I don't think K would enjoy that at all, LOL!

I want to start giving more. Actually, one of my new years resolutions/ Goals for 2008 is to start volunteeriing. I have been researchign what kind of charity I would be proud to support and help with. I can't give money, but I have plenty of time!

I think thathelping other's will help me immensly. I love to help people, I miss nursing for that reason, it makes me feel soo good to know I touched someoen's life. Plus...my life is shitty right now and I tend to complain to much abotu it because if I really examine my life, it's damn good. I need to remember how good my life really is. And I can do that by helping less fortunate people.

I don't have any winter sweaters, and the other day I ws getting depressed becuse I can't afford to buy any winter clothes. Then I looke din my closeet and realized that I hav about 7 winter coats. ( I used to live in Pittsburgh! It's damn cold there) Anyway..I thought, how fuckign selfish of me. Even if I can't afford a sweater, at leastI have a warm coat to wear. So I am washign all those coats now so I can donate them.

I like to give to AmFar. It is close to me after a family member died of AIDS.

This year I'd like to give away my pre-BA clothes and shirts!! Hell, some of them are name-brand with tags on them!! I bet some lucky young girl would LOVE to have that!!

I get my annual bonus check in December. Every year I donate half of it to something. This year I am giving to the National Center for Mising & Exploited Children. Good cause and only 7% of funds are spent on administrative costs..

Well it's not really christmas yet, but I recently found a great deal on Maxi Pads at CostCo and bought a shit ton of them in bulk and donated them to a women's shelter.

I'll be spending Christmas alone this year so I won't be getting much. But I sure am going to buy Gabby some presents. I may even wrap them so I can open them hehe.

i love seeing you SW ladies give.

i totally believe that the more you give, the more you recieve. that's not the only reason i donate items, that defeats the purpose. think of it this way: maybe if you care a little more about others than yourself, your tire may not go flat when you absolutely have no money to replace it. it's essentially the same thing as karma. what goes around comes around

i wish more people were caring. i went shopping today and saw the salvation army bell ringers. i don't donate when going into a store because i usually have no change, but when i leave i donate my leftover coin change. i was walking into the store, and 4-5 people were walking out. the salvation army man was opening the door for them, and they didn't even say thank you. i hope they are in debt up to thier eyeballs (and i wouldn't doubt it... they acted like they were so much better than him. not even a thank you!!!! gaw that's shameful.)

That is an AWESOME idea, Pookashell! Thank you for sharing. I have a Costco card myself and want to stock up for the LA Free Clinic.

That bothers me too. I like to give service all year round, not only because it's Nov. 22 or Dec 25. People in need are in need all year round..not only on those 2 days of the year. Volunteers need to be available to give service to these people who are in need on more than just 2x per year..

Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"

This is totally what I'm going to do when I get a BA.

    Giving to-

Border Angels- a charity that helps immigrants

my brother- he's laid off in December, so the Cash Fairy will visit his mailbox

my room mates are getting a generator, since rural Montana power outages are Teh Suckage

my friend JJ, who has been of most appreciated support though some crummy years

Going to take my other brother to Chinatown, SF soon. It'll rock his socks off.
