    http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07334...d=business.xml

I swear ya learn something new everyday

"Murrysville resident Mary Bach has won her small claims suit against Kmart for improperly charging her state sales tax on toilet tissue.

District Judge Jeffrey Herbst yesterday ordered Kmart to pay $100 in damages plus $59.50 in court costs.

The longtime consumer advocate sued in September after being charged 28 cents tax on a $3.99, 12-pack of Angel Soft toilet tissue on two separate occasions at the Kmart store on Mall Boulevard in Monroeville...."

Are you kidding me? I can't believe you can sue somebody over 28 cents.

ETA: She turned a damn good profit though. $100? Damn. You go, grandma.

Well think about it. They are charging the consumer that tax, but they aren't paying it to the state. Where is going? I mean, it is quite a lot of money if they are charging tax on every package they sell. Her interest was clearly not in the money.

And, when I've overcharged, I've made the mistake of just asking for a refund.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

honestly tho, that is a big deal. the reason tp isn't taxed is b/c it is seen as a necesity, just like groceries.

some people really need to count every penny.

TP and tampons/pads are taxed in Canada. If they're not in the US, I'll add them to my list of stuff to buy in Grand Forks instead.

It's dependent upon which state you go to. Some states don't charge tax on the necessities...other charge tax on everything (like Illinois). Although some places charge a flat tax across the board, other states will charge one tax for non-food and a lower tax for food.

Check it out in Grand Forks, though.

According to this, only groceries and prescription drugs are tax exempt in ND. I don't think TP or tampons qualify. On the Indian reservations in either ND or MN, that may be different.
