    Default SeptoRhinoplasty

I am having a septoplasty and a rhinoplasty on dec. 10. I was wondering if anybody has had this done? How long were you bruised for? Are you able to breathe much better, now? Have your sinuses cleared up?

(yes, did a search already...not much info on septoplastys)

Well I've never had any procedures, but I was curious so I looked it up on Wiki. It sounds like after 2 weeks you can normally blow your nose, and expect to be healed up within a month. Sounds like it sould really improve breathing too. I would think it would help sinuses too.

I have just had both of these procedures done 3 days ago. I can't tell u much yet because i still have packing inside my nose so i cannot breath at all through my nose yet. The packing is coming out on monday. It's quite awful only being able to breathe thru the mouth because it makes your mouth go really dry and makes sleeping difficult.

The surgeon said that my sinuses were terrible and that I should have a lot of relief now. I will update this. I have not had any pain either.

have u seen an ear, nose and throat surgeon yet? I saw him months ago and I had to get a CT scan and he also used a telescope to look inside my nose. If you cannot even breath out your nose get it done. Mine wasn't even that bad, I could still breath and I got it done coz I was sick of the recurrent sinus infections.

I had it done years ago. From a cosmetic standpoint, there was almost no change to my nose. In order to really have it aesthetically pleased, they would have had to do some additional work on my hooklike-tip. Think Paris Hilton: she's had it done a few times and it slants downward.

That's because the bridge somehow falls over time. And it will almost always come out crooked because of the nature of how the nose heals. That's why most people do it more than once.

But I didn't go to a plastic surgeon, but rather an ENT specialist for the medical issues. I had really bad nasal breathing problems for many years and was constantly having to take antihistamines, etc, After the surgery, I was immediately able to breathe through one nostril, but the other never full healed.

Then I did a bunch of blow for several years, and all the work reversed.

I have had it done twice,LOL! The combined-surgery,that is...

The first time was 15 years ago and didn't have much "change" cosmetically except for a bit of narrowing.ENT did it,I also had respitory problems.I could breathe much better afterwards!

The second time, done 6 years ago after by nose was broken in an accident,I had it re-done as an "open rhinoplasty" by a plastic surgeon...MUCH nicer cosmetic result and same relief for breathing....they had to take cartiledge from behind my ear to repair the bridge but it's beautiful although "fragile" now...I have to be careful not to have it broken again,LOL!

Neither time was very "hard",more bruising the second time with black eyes...within a few days,I was able to go out.

I would consider it a relatively "easy" surgery for down-time compared to a couple of others I have had...

Good Luck,I think you'll find it is worth it!

Well, I had it done yesterday! I am feeling pretty good...not in much pain, no packing or anything. Kind of dizzy from the 500 pills i was perscribed! I can't wait till I get the outer splint off so I can see it!
Does it hurt a lot when they take stiches and the inner splint out?

Today I am 2 weeks post op from septo rhino. I am starting to get sensation back in my nose only now. Having the stitches taken out i didnt feel anything as my nose was still so numb. I didnt have an internal splint i had an external one. PLus i had the packing in my nose which was the most annoying part of it.

i have a follow up appointment with the ENT surgeon tomorrow. My nose is so blocked and stuffy and i am not allowed to blow it for another 4 weeks according to my plastic surgeon so im very uncomfortable at the moment. I hope the surgery has worked.

I love my new nose tho. It does look like 1% crooked but it's 100% better than my old nose so I dont care about that. Plus I would never go through the surgery again. It wasnt painful but the packing that was in my nose for 4 days meant i could only breath out of my mouth and i got no sleep and had a dry mouth and it was extremely unpleasant.

^^^Did they use a local or general anesthesia? They put me completely asleep, so I dont think that I will be lucky enough to not feel the stiches.
Aww I can't see my nose until friday! At least I have no packing, just a splint in there.
    How did your appointment go?

I was under general for the surgery. But the nose will be quite numb for months afterwards so you really shouldn't feel too much except a pulling sensation. it's nothing to worry about,

My appointment went really well. He pulled a scab out of each nostril with tweezers (now that hurt) and I can now breathe a bit better. He said in the next week I i will start feeling a lot better.

Yay! I still want to see some pics!
I get my stitches out tomorrow and can finally see the new nose! I am super excited, but kind of worried cause the tip that is poking out looks upturned. I think it may just be the outside splint pulling it up though.

yeh mine looks diff now than it looked at first. You have to remember it will still be very swollen so you wont see the final result for months (even up to a year for all the internal swelling). I hated mine at first but I love it now. I think the reason that I hated it so much was because my face was so swollen and bruised that I just couldn't see myself as attractive. I still have a little bruising under my eyes, not too much tho.

Luckily, my face is really not too bruised. My nose is slightly bruised, but my eyes are in great shape. Actually, my hand is the worst, where the IV was! Its BLACK and hurts like hell.
I got a glimpse of my new nose before they bandaged it back up! It looks cute!!! SO EXCITED!!

Just wondering how you are feeling?

I am at the 3 and a half week mark and Im feeling pretty sorry for myself.

The swelling and bruising has gone but now I have pain in my sinuses, post nasal drip, my nose cycles between blocked and running but usually blocked and I still cannot breath all that well thru my nose.

I told the surgeon all this and basically said I feel worse than before the surgery and he said that is all normal and it should start feeling better soon. I know Im being inpatient but it's Christmas and I don't want to feel irritable and sick over Christmas.

Im still not getting good sleep either. I wake up every couple of hours.

I am at about two weeks. i don't feel all that horrible, but I can not breathe either. My surgeon told me that it sometimes takes a few months for the inside of the nose to stop swelling and for patients to be able to breathe. There are lots of tiny little blood vessels in there. I have slight pain in my sinuses, but it is nothing compared to before the surgery. Mostly my nose just hurts from the swelling inside.I have not been getting good sleep, either. Not sure if it is realted or not.
I have been taking Bromaine for the swelling, and it seems to be helping. Haveyou tried that?

no I took arnica tablets for the swelling which Im not taking anymore as most of the external swelling seems to have gone and the surgeon said I will have internal swelling for up to 12 months.

Im glad you said u r not sleeping either coz I have been a bit concerned about that. However I did a google search for rhinoplasty, septoplasty and insomnia and apparently it is very common.

I also feel tired all day but I suppose my body has been thru a lot.

Not being able to breath is frustrating. My surgeon also said it can take a couple of months for that to subside. I am so congested and I have been taking sudafed but that has something in it which can have the side effect of sleeplessness so I dont want to take it too much.

I am used to not being able to breathe, so I guess that is not being a problem for me. Using a humidifier or a vaporizer should help with your breathing at night, though.
Well you got a BA also, so your poor body is probably just trying to heal itself!

Anyway, I would recommend getting more arnica or some Bromaine and taking that. It seems to be helping a lot for me, and it will cut down on your bruising from work also!
