Christmas Eve
When the tree goes up
No topper at all

My family always put it up when the tree went up. It was always the last thing to go up and the youngest member of the family put it up, held up by my dad.
I did have friends who didn't put the tree topper up untill Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. Nothing wrong with it, its just family tradition.

We always did it when the tree went up, not that that is inherently correct. It's the way I voted because that's the way we did it, but I can also see the logic of having a special bonus tree-topping moment Xmas Eve, too.
If you really can't decide, flip a coin? Or figure out a custom ornament that can be added to or completed Xmas Eve?

I've never had a tree. Does my vote still count? I voted when the tree goes up.

I may be wrong here, But I believe that many people put the topper on Christmas Eve to symbolize Christs birthday. As for me and my faily the star goes on when the tree goes up.
You Cant Quit until you try, You cant live until you die, You Cant learn to tell the truth until you learn to lie.You Cant Breath Until you choke,You gotta Laugh When your the Joke, Theres Nothing like a funeral to make you feel alive! Will you swear on your life, that no one will cry at my Funeral!
I've never had a tree either... but I always thought people did it when the tree went up. I can see putting the topper on as a cute little festive thing, though.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
When the tree goes up, for us.
My tree is too small to have a topper....![]()
HUbby says when the tree goes up...I say X-mas eve. We have this fight every year

I don't even have a tree yet, but I'd say all the deco goes on when you put up the tree. Christmas Eve is for sneaking a present and drinking merrily.

My family did it when the tree goes up. This year my mom is waiting for me to come home so I can put it on.
Whenever the tree goes up. Although if putting the toppr on the tree symbolizes something religious, that would be why we never did it...
Now my tree comes with the star attached, LOL. So yeah, it 's there when the there goes up.

When the tree goes up the topper goes on.
We do however set up a Nativity under the tree and baby Jesus doesn't appear in the Nativity until Christmas Eve and the three wise men don't show up until three kings day.
That's our tradition.
My husbands family puts the entire tree up Christmas Eve....
My family would put the tree up a few weeks before Christmas and put the topper on at the same time the tree went up.
I havent thought about the tree this year.... damn, I need to get on it...

Why not treat it like a rock concert? Have an opening topper, which is passable and entertaining, but leads up to the grand finale that is the ultimate main stage act. This way you guys can compromise, and if you want, maybe make it somewhat of a tradition or symbolic to you....representing the growth of your relationship....or just different topper symbols to represent different ideas/values in your household....make it your own ya know.
My sister's birthday is Christmas Eve, so she got screwed enough without having to set aside part of her birthday to put the topper on the tree. We always let her put the star on top when we put up the tree.
I don't put a star on my tree........we do a large red or blue bow. I am hoping that one year I can do a purple and silver tree.
We have three toppers, a glass steeple, a star, and an angel. The steeple was my parents' decoration, and I inherited it when they passed away. We had the star when we were first married, and we got the angel years later. We always use the angel because we think it is the most beautiful--has lights within that make her dress glow, a light that lights a halo, and a light she is holding.
But if you want to be religiously appropriate, leave it bare or use something like the steeple during Advent, change it to an angel on Christmas Eve, and change it to a star of Epiphany. But we take our tree down on Epiphany, so a star would not be up for long.
We also have a creche which we put up the first Sunday in Advent. It has angels until Epiphany, and then the angels are replaced by the wise men.
As to when YOU put the topper on the tree, I think this is one of the things you negotiate between you. Alternate years, maybe?

We put the christmas tree topper on when all the other decorations go on. Sometimes the topper is a star, sometimes it is an angel, just depending on what we have for decorations and which is nicer.
