    Default Puppy Bites!

This is about my roommates puppy. My roommate had a personal trauma right after getting the puppy and therefore doesn't take care of her. So I do. And I'm totally in love. She's a perfect little bundle of fluff. A lil baby Shih-tzu-Bichon mix.

But I'm having a problem with her. She loves to bite. She has lots of fun toys, but she bites people every chance she gets if she's in a playful mood (90 percent of the time. Normally I adore her playful moods but not the biting!) She bites hands, and she nips at people's heels when we're walking.

She gets tons of attention... I read on dog training sites that the biting can be caused by this. I also read that if I yell ouch! and pull away quicky when she bites it'll stop, but she seem to think this means that I'm playing with her.

Anyone know what I can do?

slap her and then squeeze her muzzle and hold it for a ten count. The slap tells her she has pissed of the Alpha female, and closng your hand on her muzzle shows your dominance. In the wild the Aplha closes her jaws on the muzzle or throat) of the lesser as proof of her dominance.

Adult dogs remind puppies of their inferior status by nipping them on their nose. You can train your puppy to think you are the Alpha Dog by pinching her nose whenever she does something you do not want her to do. Not hard, just enough to make her yip.

And be sure that you pet her when she is pleasing you. This is like the mother dog licking her babies.

Gah, she sounds like my ferret as a baby!! Is there somewhere you can shut her up for awhile for time-out when she does stuff like that? That seems to be most effective in my experiance. Also, don't forget to scold her every time she bites (even and especially the play-bites!).
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
