Default Is it dirty socks or is it death?

My cats have done it again.

    The little shts.

I woke up to a bizillion little feathers covering my living room floor. No bird in site. I looked under the couch, behind it, behind the cat tree, in the backyard...I figured it must have made a nice meal between the two of them.

That was the day before YESTERDAY.

Now, today. I head to the laundry room to throw a load in, and as soon as I open the door this smell hits me. I gag, Slam the door shut, then ask my hubby to come sniff the room because I've been known to have really weird smell reactions. "Dirty socks, yep. That's all."

K, in that case, my kiddo's feet are toxic and he needs the ER right away! But okay, so they say it's dirty socks...fine...I go put a load on the wash and the cats dart into the room with me. They play while I sort the clothes, as usual. But then they wont leave.

I finally coax them out so I can shut the door (it's really loud otherwise). I go back when the wash is done, the door is ajar, and when I push it open the cats dart out! There....on the floor....dead bird.

Ofcourse I go all girly and yell for the hubby to come collect the carcass, and I said, so...my kids feet smell like death huh? That's not good news!

Gah! Cats!!!!!! No more dead animals in the house!!!!

I don't know why, but this reminded me of the time my mom pissed off the cat, so he shit right on her pillow while she slept. In the night, she rolled over in her sleep....and ended up with a mouth ful of kitty poo!!

That'll teach her who's in charge! LMAO

    I love kitties.

MrsC and I were discussing possible Xmas gifts for the kidlets. Suddenly, I smelled something terrifying. We looked around, and my 12 year old son's shoes were to blame. They're leather Circas, so they can't be washed. Guess who's getting new shoes for Xmas instead of that video game? Sweet Jesus, it's like a raging wild animal died, then farted, then ate a litterbox, and turned into a shoe.

My Pantera took down a six lbs squirrel and broke it's back. He hadn't killed it yet, but it left a peculiar scent in the house.

    Oh those kitties!

My 10yr old girlchild has the feet of death. I'll bring ya over so you can smell her room, then you can go back home and when the smell of slowly rotting flesh hits your nasal cavaties...you'll be IMMUNE!

We adopted a Kitty from the pound about seven years ago. He is as lovable as can be .. Inside. Outside that cat is pure terror. I try to keep him inside, but should he get out I feel sorry for the bird and mice and anything else in the yard.

The other night we were sitting on the porch by the chiminea, The cat is sitting on the porch railing, All of the sudden the cat jumps off the railing. Turn out he saw a bird, and the "lil fucker caught him in mid flight. Luckily I was able to yell at him and distrat him enough to let the bird get away.

    Bad Kitty...BAD!

Bahahaha! My son had shoes like that when he was like 10. He had a bad habit of wearing them without socks. God they were rank!

Your cats are simply giving you a gift; evidentally, you are the mistress of the house. (Notice they didn't leave it in a room your hubby frequents.)

"Do we have time to wrap it in a nice bow and write a card?" "No, no. Just drag it into the middle of the room. She'll love it!"

^ Did he used to be an outside cat?
I've found that cats who used to be able to go outdoors but then are forced to stay inside have a very very hard time staying inside, and will dart around your feet to sneak outside. My boyfriend's parent's cat is 19 years old( still in excellent health) and as a young cat, she was allowed outdoors. She hasn't been allowed out in 10 years, yet she always manages to sneak out.

On the other hand, my kitties were born outside in a feral cololny. They were trapped as babies and brought inside, and have never stepped foot in the outdoors again. My cat's never try to get out, they don't even go near the front door. It's like that area near the door scares them. They do however, looove to be taken out on the balcony. I hold them in my arms and let them sniff pidgeon poop and watch the pidgeons on the roof, and they just love it, but they never try to get out of my arms. They are content to just be held and watch stuff.

    Yup Yup

We had a cat, Tigersly - who would always bring us 'gifts' and leave them by the back door. Birds, mice, you name it, we saw it. Theyre leaving you little presents!

Dunno?! My cats been indoors since day one and is ALWAYS at the door the minute we open it. Shes always trying to get out. When we first moved here she popped the screen out of one of the upstairs bedrooms and was chillin on the overhang up there. It was hell trying to get her back inside.

^ Oh, god that would scare me. My cat's love to sit in the windows and we are in a second floor apartment. When I discvovered their love for open windows, I went around and pushed on all the screens to see if they popped out easily or not. Luckily I discovered that our screens are damn sturdy.

But yeah...I dunno. Maybe some cats just have more of a desire for outside...but I always thought that they can't miss what they don't know. Indoor cats don't know what's outside so they have no desire to go there.
Or maybe my cat's are just pansy scaredy babies.

My cat is rather small which didn't stop her from bringing home the back half of a possum, she dragged it in the kitchen window when my (ex) husband was cooking dinner. We never found the front half. About a year later she did it again, in a different house, just the back half, I don't get it, these possums are almost twice her size!!!??? The second time I found the head (no front paws though???), our two little boys (kittens) were kicking it around the kitchen like a soccer ball, ewwwww.... No kisses for any kitties after that.
When I was younger the strange cat once managed to get into my housemates locked room, lift the lid of her fish tank off and catch the single goldfish. There was water everywhere and I swear I could see little orange scales on the walls. She had the stupidist, smuggest look on her face (and was soaking wet) we couldn't help but laugh. My housemate seriously wanted to kill her, she wasn't the nicest person, I moved out not long after.
When she catches smaller things she never kills them completely, just leaves them twitching there while she shows off her 'present' which just makes it that much
harder because i usually have to put them out of their misery. I can't get angry at her either becaue she's not going to understand it ever, I just try and keep her inside as much as possible, but she's slippery.
Woo, sorry, bigger post than intended.

Interesting Kaylinn, I never thought about it before..but yah, both cats were outdoor/indoor cats.

I tried to keep the male an indoor cat but he was determined to go outside. He was an angry kitty before then, would pee on things, scratched ALL the furniture, everything a naughty kitty shouldn't do. And I made sure he had lots of stuff to play on, with etc. But as soon as he started going outside, all of that stopped. He was just a happier kitty when he could go outside.

The girl cat though, she's always been an in/outdoor kitty. Nothing I could about that one. Then ofcourse there's the doggy door. They just come in and out that thing, dragging whatever poor creature they've gotten their paws on with them.

*sigh* A gift huh. I know it's probably true... but, but, EEEWWWW!

Maybe its instinctive in some cats. Maybe in other cats that instinct has somehow been bred out more?! OK, that sounded totally stupid but ya know what I mean? This is my first indoor only kitty but shes my love doll. Im getting my daughter a kitten for Christmas so hopefully they get along.

That would make sense, except that my cat's were born in a feral colony They were trapped as babies. Their mother was trapped, spayed and released. She was to old, to feral to be rehabilitated. My cats were just babies at the time, so they weren't told old I guess to learn how to be normal. They were very very skitish as kittens, very very fearful of humans, and although they are total lovebugs to us now, other people scare them. They are very shy cats and hide under the bed whenever someone that isn't me or my bf are over.

So their outdoor instinct definatly wasn't bred out, it was more bred into them, if that makes sense. Maybe my cats don't wanna go outside just becaue they know how good they have it in here. This is where the food is.
    I dunno....
    It is interesting.....

And a complete thread jack. Back to smelly feet!

    I am so quoting that.

I used to take my kittens on walks. With little kitty leashes and collars, like most people do with dogs. It might sound weird but they loved it. They went apeshit every time I brought out the leashes--they'd start jumping around and mewing and pawing at the front door.

I used to have a crazy ass tom cat that I took in that, instead of leaving us nice pleasant little dead bird presents on the doorstep he would kill massive ass raccoons and possums and shit and leave them on the doorstep for us.
