    Default Recovery Agents?!? WTF

So last night at midnight someone buzzed my gate phone, they were looking for someone who's name I did not recognize. I told them they had the wrong apartment. A few minutes later I hear loud knocking on my neighbors door for like 5 minutes.

Then they come knock on mine, I opened the window on the door like an inch so I could talk to them. They said they were recovery agents looking for my neighbor and they wanted to ask me a few questions about him. I told them I didn't know him and I didn't know them so I was not opening the door. No problem, they just asked me what they wanted to through the window.

They wanted to know what time he was usually around, shit like that. Then they asked me to take their phone number and if I saw his car would I please call them and they would throw me like $75 for my help.

So what do you think, do I have some crazy fuck staying next to me?

FTR it's someone that is staying with my neighbor, not my actual neighbor. This guy has just showed up within the past 2 months. Do you think this is like some guy that is out on bail and these are bail bonds guys looking for him or something? Opinions please...

Honestly i think you could get yourself into a load of mess if you do or say anything. I would just ignore it. If anything, i would ask your landlord about what they were doing there in the first place.

A recovery agent is something like a bounty hunter, so yeah, you've certainly got a criminal living beside you.

If they come back, it's probably okay to talk to them. Just keep it on the down-lo so your neighbour doesn't figure you to be the narc.

I would ask my landlord but it's a condo so my landlord doesn't own the place next door and I don't think he even knows my neighbor.

Recovery agents aren't just bail bondsman/bounty hunters. They are also repo men.
Basically you have fugitive recovery agents and collateral recovery agents.
It seems to me they are repo men and they are safe.

Not true. Like I said a recovery agent is also a repo man. It depends on the state you live in on what a repo man is called.
The OP lives in florida where the repo men are usually called recovery agents. They go to school to learn how to be better than a repo man, it's actually way cool.

^^^Well....that's no fun. I was all excited for a big dramatic story here. Boo.

Oh well. They're safe to talk to at least so don't freak out if they come back.

If they mentioned something about his car, I'd say it's a safe bet you were talking to the repo man. Especially since they're offering a kickback.

assume nothing. if they want the guy that badly they need to go through your landlord, not you. stay the FUCK out of it. I think someone said it earlier, but this shit has trouble written all over it.

If someone was reposessing furniture or a car or whatever, I would think they'd do it during business hours, right? Not at midnight? I'm inclined to believe that these guys were bounty hunters. Were they in any kind of uniform, or show you ID? You shouldn't talk to anyone without them showing ID anyways, and it was really smart of you not to open your door. Keep being safe, it has nothing to do with you, so you don't need to feel obligated to answer their questions or allow them into your home. If they were cops or the feds or something, then you should definitley help, but not just bounty hunters.

I am pretty sure when trying to repo a vehicle, they come at really late hours hoping there is someone there (or at least the vehicle), they rarely come during business hours b/c most people are at work.

Nah, lots of them will sneak around under the cover of night to repo a car or something else that's outside. Especially a car, since the best time for them to tow it away is while the guy is sleeping. Repo can be a very dangerous job. You never know what nutjob is going to pull a gun or something when he sees his car getting towed.

Something that would be IN the house is another story. Usually they'll watch the guy for a few days to figure out what his schedule is and then clean him out while he's at work or something.

Sounds like its just a car repo man. If it were me though, I'd just stay out of it.. unless you just REALLY need $75.

Woooot prize for Buffie she got it right!....yes reposession occur generally at night, though they do happen during the day. There are some laws that the have to follow, ie they cannot touch another vehicle, if it is blocking access to the collateral. Also, police can show up, and in-order to keep the peace can tell the repo men to leave the vehicle.

I used to work at a finace company, I gotta admit it was pretty damn fun sometimes repo-ing someone ...
