Every time I get so stressed I'm having a hard time breathing, I pick up some knitting...

I've never knit a whole item. I just know it helps me to feel better.

I've been working on the same scarf for like 3 years. I pick it up, stitch a line, then get bored and move on to something else!

I'm not a knitter; I'm a crocheter. But I agree that it really helps when your stressed.

I also find that it helps the arthritis that I have developed in my hands as of late.

Hell yeah!! I didn't mean for them to be xbox colors, but they sure are comfy! They didn't take me long either, about one whole day each (I have 2).

I'm currently working on a sweater for the bf. It's my first sweater, so it's a little fucked up, but damnit, I'm gonna make him wear it.

All you knitters, check out this website. I love the patterns she has. The pillow is on there too!

I haven't knitted anything in years. I know how to knit, but I never figured out how to cast off... so it just keeps getting longer and longer and longer....

    Susan, I am so impressed!

It's weird, I was just thinking about starting a thread in Picture Post where knitters and other crafty/creative types could post pics of their handiwork.

Knitting rules. I just picked it up again after a few months' break. I always have three or four projects going at once, so when I get bored with one I can switch. I'm not super-accomplished; I know a lot of stitches, but I don't have the patience to do really big complicated projects that require a lot of blocking and finishing, so I stick with smaller, simpler stuff like scarves and hats. Maybe I'll post some pics when I get a chance...

Hey, what are your favorite books to knit from? I really like Last-Minute Knitted Gifts and Exquisite Little Knits. Suss Cousins also has some great designs in her books Hollywood Knits and Hollywood Knit Style.

Stitch 'n' Bitch is a good book, but I'm not crazy about the designs in there. But it has pretty clear, easy-to-follow instructions for beginners.

If you really want to learn to knit, go online and find a yarn store in your area. They usually offer classes.

Speaking of which, do any of you have a great online source for good-quality yarn at reasonable prices?

^Is there a yarn store somewhere near you? The ladies who hang out there can be a little supercilious, but they are usually helpful if you're having a specific problem like that.

Also, do you have Stitch 'n' Bitch? There are some really helpful instructions and diagrams in there.

I alway forget how to tie off an end without unraveling the row. My family was huge on knitting and sewing. I never quite got it. I wish I did though

My aunt has kindly offered to knit me a sweater. She has asked me to pick a pattern and wool I like so I went to the craft store and found a wool with 25% soy that was pretty neat. The problem is I can't find a pattern. I want something that will fit like a long sleeved tee-shirt, no patterns, no cables, just plain. But then apparently I need to match the pattern to the wool for gauge or something? I'm just a boy who hasn't a clue. Especially about knitting.

Yay first post on SW and it's about knitting!

I taught myself how to knit this summer. It's tough to do all by yourself! The ladies at the local yarn store are total bitches. No help at all.
But I found this book at Borders and it has been a lifesaver. I really recommend it for beginners.
