MANY MEN WANTED TO LAY ME DOWN, BUT FEW WANTED TO LIFT ME UP
-Eartha Kitt
Oh, that's just terrible. Those poor families, losing people so senselessly right before the holidays.
"Before I conceived you, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of life." -- Maureen Hawkins
"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott
Because he wanted to be FAMOUS?! That's the dumbass reason he killed innocent people? Unbelievable. There isn't a hellish enough hell for losers like that. I hope (futilely, I know, considering the tragedy) everyone forgets his name--he doesn't even deserve to be in anyone's memories.
Yeah, I'm getting a little pardanoid of schools and malls now..![]()

Worse yet. Instead of shunning him and not releasing his name to family only, what happens. What he wants! The media is making him famous.................... Damn it. There is some future murderer giving himself a high five, he can be famous too.
Just like the last selfish, cowardly, piece of shit, he killed himself before having to take responsibility for murder.
This is a time I would like to believe hell existed.
pshhh i have no respect for being not able to handle a small amount of bullshit.

Is this world getting so bad that we can't even go shopping now?? And I heard today that the parking garage of a mall collapsed and killed someone. Bring your hardhats and bulletproof vests when you go shopping people!

Great. Like I don't panic just being IN a crowded mall. Now I have to do my bloody shopping all paranoid about getting shot too.
\

Couldn't he have bitched about it on MySpace like every other annoying kid and be done with it? -_-
Thank goodness my boy out in Omaha decided not to play hooky from work and go to that mall that day. He almost did! o_O!

"In life, we DO a lot in order to accomplish mundane trivial things before we die, but it is in death and after death in memories that we will truly live, because it is in the level of care and detail that a person paints of us with stories from their memories and experiences with us that give us meaning."

There's no excuse for what this kid did, but his parents shouldnt have kicked him out of the house & given him more attention... & taken care of his mental issues.
Well, on the bright side, I still think "high school" wins over "mall" as a place for a glamorous copy-cat shooting. Damn kids my age are dumb/\.
He looks JUST like a reg I had in my last club. If he weren't in Omaha I would think it's the same dude.
The one thing all these places had in common:
Gun Free Zones.
As they say, if you are being stalked - would you put a sign saying Gun Free Home in the front yard?

I have several relatives in the Omaha area, and have been in that mall before so when I found out about this yesterday, this hit a little close to home. Oddly enough, this very same mall canceled trick or treating the Halloween after 9/11 for "security reasons".
I agree with Mr. Lott's premise but the "more guns = less crime" is a hard sale on retailers and their primary customer demographic, who are disproportionately suburban women and not exactly the gun toting type.
Former SCJ now in rehab.
This really made me sad. My New Year's chore is several letters to politicians regarding the shortcomings of America's mental health care system.
ugh.
I hate reading stuff like this...How sad. I need to get a gun permit just so I can protect myself. Damn.

They had profiles of the people who died on MSN, & it was so tragic. They were all exceptionally kind people. This one man, he was said to actually step in front of the fire to save someone else!

On another forum I frequent (gun related) several people there mentioned they used to go to that mall. Then the mall put up a "no weapons" sign, and they stopped going there because they actually follow the law, thus making sure no one was there to return any fire. A college proff I know wrote this right after the VT shootings:
A terrible tragedy. I know, I teach on college campus.
Once he starts to act, the only thing that can stop a single, psychotic killer who is willing to die is the rapid delivery of counter fire by whoever is near. Cop, civilian, it doesn't matter who or their job status. The more people who are nearby and capable of delivering return fire, the fewer and less serious the injuries (there's criminological data on this).
Virginia Tech. is a "gun free" zone guaranteeing that the psychotic killer had the only gun. He came prepared. He waited until there were no police in sight and then commenced his murderous acts certain that he would encounter no effective resistance. And , he didn't.
Twenty-one innocent dead because there was no one capable of fighting back. All they could do was cower or run.
Professor Joseph Olson, J.D., LL.M.
I don't consider that much of an excuse and if they feel that way, then they should pay for the police detail that should always be there at the very least. Regardless, more women need to learn to shoot and defend themselves anyway, but they are told someone else will protect them, which in fact someone else will put them in a bag....![]()

Below are some comments pulled from a write up by a guy who was not far from the shooter at the mall. It’s a long read, but interesting. A few key comments of note he makes in his write up:
“Honestly, and as God as my witness, when I saw him shooting and as watched for a few seconds trying to figure out what he was going to do and what I should do, the thought that when through my mind was, “If I had a gun, I have a perfect shot.”
And
“When I realized that I had no gun, fear instantly struck me, along with anger, and severe panic.”
And
“I have completed the training class, but I keep putting off applying for the permit because I think it is useless. In the places I would need a gun most, I am not allowed to have it. I will not be a person living in fear and not go to Van Maur because they don’t allow guns.”
And
“I am very angry at the city of Omaha and the mall for their stupid laws that nearly cost me my life. The laws protected no one, and in my opinion, caused people to die.”
