This whole thing was nauseating. I am so glad she said what she did in reply to this. All women should be proud of their bodies, flaws and all. This crap just perpetuates unhealthy ideals and body obsession overall. I'm over it.

Who cares?
Seriously, find something better to do. (the writer, not you guys)

JLH is not fat, but she is a little soft. But beautiful nonetheless. Nice curves!
I too would love to see the writer who had unkind things to say about her.
We're so used to seeing celebrities in their perfect hair/makeup/airbrushing/lighting that when we see a photo of them looking less-than-perfect, it comes as a shock. Then we see that, omigod, they're real people too!
I think it is ridiculous to slam others for their physical imperfections. Nobody is perfect.
It amazes me how being "fat" is like the ultimate sin, especially for celebrities. Um, there are worse things you can do.
I understand JLH's frustration, but...As an actress and stripper, I hit the gym 5-6 days a week for my health, but I also do it for my work. Because as shallow as it is, looks matter, and if you look good, you'll sell. Yes a lot of larger women get by with talent alone, but in Hollywood, for the most part, the better you look, the more offers of work you'll get. It's an unfortunate reality in that world. If I'm gonna put myself out there, I wanna look my best, but if JLH wants to be how she is (and she is very pretty) then she should not be ridiculed for it.

A couple of weeks ago when I was watching her tv show she looked like she was getting fat, but I guess that it is now normal in the United States to be fat.

^^Ugh.
On her show, she wears mostly babydoll style shirts/dresses. You'd have no idea of whether or not she actually looked "fat."
She's not fat. She's a damn size 2. This argument about stars being "fat" will never cease to make me angry.
Hah. Great minds, Dylan.

Because statistics always reflect the truth, first of all...Particularly those given by the media.![]()

I would call JLH soft or full-bodied, but FAT? No.

I watch the news plenty. I also happen to be in the advertising industry so I know what I'm talking about.
When the media says "fat", they really mean normal sized women. I'm not saying there isn't a problem but when you think about the standards that we're holding our women up to, it's not right.
Size 2 is not the average, it's thin. I would call size 6 to 8 average. And she is not either of those.

You are joking right?![]()
Number one she isn't fat, just because she doesn't look like a bag of bones does not make her fat. She looks like a f*cking woman.
Safado, maybe the epitome of health and physical perfection to you is Jenna Jameson or Amy Winehouse, huh? Nice curves! Amy Winehouse isn't even from U.S.A where the "norm is to be fat," so maybe that adds to the appeal for ya..
Healthy, confident women are beautiful and that should be the norm. Unfortunately it is the people who call a size 2 "fat" that trash healthy ideals entirely.
Ladies. May I point out that the gentlemen driving this thread use obnoxious behaviour to get your attention, right? As in: they are posting this just to make you post back. If you don't mind, that's fine - but there is no point in trying to discuss an issue with someone whose goal is not to have a position, but just to make you post more. Men who crave your attention, young ladies - you really should be able to identify them by now.

I know Jenny, I know. But it's an icky day and I'm bored. Arguing with PL's is my entertainment for today.
Dylan - I have a weakness for the argument myself. It's a kind of hybris, I think.

I'm sorry, but she does not look good at all in that pic. It could be a "bad angle" as she's claiming, but I don't think so. And this is not a picture of someone who is a size 2, maybe a size 10, but def not a 2.
If it was a regular woman with a job that didn't revolve around her body and beauty then I'd say people are mean for picking on her. But as we all know, if we let ourselves go like that we could say goodbye to our jobs or we'd have to downgrade to a lower level club. That's life in a superficial industry.
Seriously, she's an actress, what else does her job require except that she stay in decent shape? She's not an "older" actress so she can't even use that as an excuse. She got lazy, gained weight, and I'd bet money that she'll be back to normal in a number of weeks because she's embarassed about these pics.
Fie upon these actresses who think that there is something to their craft besides being slender! A pox upon them!

Uh, have you seen her "act?" Do you think she gets hired for her theatrical skills? I always thought it was her huge tits that landed her roles in awesome shows like, "The Ghost Whisperer." If she was so wonderful at her "craft" she'd be going for something than Angela Landsbury roles.
So hey, maybe they should take it easy on her. If her target demographic is the elderly, it won't matter if she puts on 20 lbs. They certainly won't care.

I don't get this moral imperative to be thin? Or even attractive? People can't be interesting on TV unless they're hot? I mean, I am not a size two, but I don't feel like a Christian in the Roman arena when I wear a bikini at work.

Camera angles can make a person look significantly smaller or larger than they really are. I'm not sure how tall she is, which can make a difference in what her size "appears" to be, but I would honestly say she probably wears a size 4 in dresses. Pant size could be larger or smaller, really hard to say from such a photo. But she probably skinnies down quick for her shooting schedule, and most likely is a 2 during those times.
According to department store sales, the average women's size is actually a 14. But going by my own observations of frequent shopping in resale and thrift shops, the average size is a 10. When I shop for pants at thrift shops, there are always more size 10 than any other size.
Moral imperative? Are we pretending like being attractive in tv and film is something new? It is part of it and always has been. And there are always goign to be actors and actresses whose looks don't matter because their acting is on a higher level. J. Hewitt isn't one of them.
I don't know what the deal is with clothing sizes. Over the last five or so years I've noticed vanity sizing taking over. What used to be a 6 is now a 2. I have never in my life worn a 2 until the last few years, and it isn't because I've lost a bunch of weight. It's because they make the clothing bigger. That's why if you go into a vingtage store you'll find yourself fitting into "larger" sized clothing, when in reality they are actually the same measurements as a 2 from Express.
