    Default Handwriting

Ok, so I was a psychology major in college. I am very interested in how the human mind works, intelligence, motivation, etc. I don't really believe in superstitions like horoscopes and tarot cards (although I like to check my horoscope for fun once in a while ) but I do believe that handwriting is a reflection of individuality.

This is why I think its so interesting: We all learn to write exactly the same way but everybody develops their own unique style of handwriting. Psychologists have documented patterns in how individuals interpret Rorschach (ink blot) tests and can identify personal traits such as creativity, idealism, and even insanity. I strongly believe that the interpretation of neutral stimuli (like Rorschach tests) and handwritings/drawings are a physical projection of your mind.

SO, I did my own analysis, comparing my handwriting to a book on the subject. I tried to be as objective as possible, identifying the characteristics and then interpreting them afterward. This is what my handwriting "says" about me:

    I am extroverted.
-Very organized. (This came up several times which surprised me.) Concerned with order, detail-concious, high ability to concentrate and practical.
-Idealistic and set high goals for myself
-But also stubborn, opinionated and narrow-minded.
    -Formal, resistant to change
-Cautious in thought, but take a strong initiative
-Straightforward, honest, but sometimes vulgar and tactless
    -Unconcerned with image.
    -Also gullible,
    -but clear-minded, observant, and self-disciplined.

Anybody want me to do them??? You're supposed to analyze an original sample, but the book is in print, so I think a copy is almost as good. One of my friends has a fax machine so someone could fax me their sample and I will try to be as objective as possible.

That's pretty cool. I don't know much about handwriting analysis but it makes sense. When they do analysis do they use cursive or print writing? I'm a psychology major too and we never learned this

Yeah- this is too in depth to be taught at the undergraduate level. Psychology is a very broad field. The book I have is about 150 pages and only covers cursive. It possible to analyze printed handwriting too, but its supposed to be more difficult and my book doesn't cover that.

My best friend's grandfather was a handwriting analysis expert for the FBI when he was younger. He taught us alot about this - it's really cool and actually pretty accurate/useful.

I majored in psych and never got to take a class on that... it was never offered. I would have loved to, though.

I have a scanner... I can send you a copy of my handwriting? It's actually kind of different depending on my mood, though.

My handwriting changes everytime I put a pen to paper. Does this mean I have multiple personalities? It's definately an interesting topic, I'd love to learn some more about it. Does it take long to analize a 'sample'?

The difference between FBI handwriting analysis and the OP's thoughts is the FBI determines if it is left handed or right handed, female or male, and if two samples match.

    And that's about it.

The rest falls into the realm of voodoo.

Handwriting annalysis is very interesting, I have a couple of books on it.
You might find palmistry / hand reading & dermatoglypics interesting Lucky One - its amazing what you can tell about people by looking at their hands! (Not to do with fortune telling.)

I have studied graphology since I was a kid.

The suicide note of the Omaha Mall shooter was studied by an expert knowledgeable in graphology, and he said the "crazy" was jumping off the page.

It's a lot like reading body language...Lit types are more attuned to how the written word looks.

Though it's not an exact science, handwriting analysis can be quite informative! You really can get a decent idea of someone's personality and habits by looking at their handwriting. Or if they were on drugs or having a seizure or something while writing...

Neat!! Do you need the original for like the indent and *feather?* of the ink? All that type of stuff?

I'll see what I can do

And what does it mean when you press hard? I tried google-ing it but all I could find was stuff about up/down strokes. Yeah yeah whatever strokes, but I mean before we even get to that. Like it's perfectly imprinted on the next page. And visible on the next and the next...

I'm not heavy handed as such - I move lightly and smoothly across the page. I use these so it's not like they're 'sharp'.

...?? (I don't know? It just looked cute.)

I'm game, Lucky--I could send you a page from something I'm creating...I'm very curious what sort of state I'm in when doing so: I feel as if I am in a strange dream.

It is a subject that has always fascinated me, too. I was recently stuck for a while in an airport, people-watching, and it is so interesting to see that, if you watch closely enough, people actually WALK their personalities. Human beings are a fascinating bunch.

    Great thread, cool lady.

I'm an extremely heavy writer. My hand cramps easily and I constantly snap the lead tips of my pencils. It always jumps me too. *snap* wince

Ok!!! Inbox cleared!!! Sorry ladies (and gents!)
    Samples must be:
    on unlined paper
    at least 6 x 9 inches
    cursive, not printed
preferably 100 words or more- its ok to use more than 1 page.
Last, it doesn't matter what you write- just don't copy it. The words should flow freely...

Have you taken a Jung or MBPI yet and compared the results to that. There are a few of them here http://similarminds.com/personality_tests.html
or http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html You can see what the results mean here if you find it interesting
