Does anyone practice this? PM me if you like.![]()

I dance to the song but I don't practice it![]()
I don't practice santeria
I ain't got no crystal ball
**ok sorry

Hmmm.... Here is a cool list http://www.villagevoice.com/specials...il.php?id=3897
I do a little hocus pocus. I was always interested in looking into Santeria.

Can this become a general "superstitions/tarot/wicca/alternative" thread? I think it's soooo fascinating. Ever since I moved here, I've been exposed to so much Mexican folklore and practices, like "ojo" and rubbing eggs on people and such. I'd love to hear what others have seen or believe.

Heh! Good Idea Sunday.

I've done a little. I've met with a couple of priests and I had an altar based on what I was learning. It's definitely interesting. You can learn a lot from it (as with other faiths).
But, it doesn't respnate with me anymore. Now I'm more into my own personal philosophies and religion ... my own way of wicca/spiritism I guess.
Yes, the Rican in me practices.
I have all types of velones (candles) with Santa Barbara (red), San Miguel (blue), San Antonio (brown), etc. It's more of a traditional thing and a symbol on something I plan on improving in my life. For example, when I want to have more money come in, I will light the green vela (candle) of dinero y prosperidad (money and prosperity), and look at it as a reminder to keep my hustle up.
Keep in mind the candles dont necessarily have to have the saints on them. The colors are important.

^^^^ I'm almost always burning the white candle. I'm a little superstitious about it.

If anyone can reccomend any good books on it too, i'd appreciate it.![]()

Again, I have very little first hand knowledge about Santeria. But I do know that Enchantments on 9th street in NYC has a pretty good collection of books that are hard to come by. Some are published by teeny tiny companies and aren't represented on Amazon. For some reason, I tend to find those books most authentic. Give those guys a call... they'll help you out.

I have a little Word document that I use as my guide. I found the info on a few websites and meshed them together.
Candles and Their Colors:
a. white -- spiritual blessings, purity, healing, rest
b. blue -- peace, harmony, joy, kindly intentions, healing
c. green -- money spells, gambling luck, business, a good job, good crops
d. yellow -- devotion, prayer, money (gold), cheerfulness, attraction
e. red -- love spells, affection, passion, bodily vigour
f. pink -- attraction, romance, clean living
g. purple -- mastery, power, ambition, control, command
h. orange -- change of plans, opening the way, prophetic dreams
i. brown -- court case spells, neutrality
j. black -- repulsion, dark thoughts, sorrow, freedom from evil
k. red and black (Double Action) -- remove a love-jinxing spell
l. white and black (Double Action) -- to return evil to the sender
m. green and black (Double Action) -- remove money-jinxing

Frances, do you light them up all at the same time? The ones that you have, that is.

LOL No wonder I feel just WRONG when one isn't lit.
Here's a stroy why: I was in a really abusive relationship once. The guy went to work and I was freaking out and scared of what he'd do to me. So i went to the store and bought a white candle. I remember there was a Botanica in my neighborhodd in my previous city.
So I burn it and don't let it burn out. I pray for him to get out of my life. A couple of days later he's arrested (he was a fugitive though). Then I start doing reserach on him and find out horrible things that he'd done. So I start wishing his death.
The next day I get a call from him. He's in the prison hospital after having suffered a series of heartattacks. He was only 31. Anyways, I started praying/apologizing/wishing him better - UNFORTUNATELY.
Ever since then, the white candle has pretty much been on. You might think it was all coincidental but - I don't really believe in coincidences all that much.
I've never hated anyone that much in my life. I was passionate about it.
It really depends. I light them all up if there are a number of issues at hand. As a rule though, I keep my white ones on, but one has Espiritu Santo (Holy Spirit) and the other has Santa Clara (to bring clarity and have peace of mind).
Yeah, girl that stuff is real, particularly when you are putting out those vibes along with asking for "help". I really enjoy it and think it's fascinating.
