    Default anyone else dislike NYE??

I have always found NYE depressing (not sure why) and a big hype about nothing much. Im not much of a going out person. Last year my bf and I just stayed home.

It's my mum's bday on NYE but she doesn't usually do much to celebrate - we did for her 50th.

I dont like the pressure to do something just coz it's NYE yet I feel lame if I do nothing.

I'm the same way. It sort of always makes me feel depressed because I feel like I should be out at some fabulous party, but often I don't have a fabulous party to go to. I've actually spent a lot of NYEs alone at home. And then I feel lame for doing so even though it's really just another night. The whole holiday season in general can make me depressed because I feel like my life should be so much more exciting than it really is and I start comparing myself to everyone else.

I could have written that, I feel exactly the same, you described it perfectly.
Everyone else seems to be going to some great party or event that costs like $200 and I just am not a party girl I guess.

Ill prob be at home on SW.

Well at least I know Im not the only one.

The last time I was at a NYE party was 9th grade. It's so overhyped. I'm normally asleep. Sometimes I wish I lived "the high life" and had occasions to get gussied up but then I remember that I don't really enjoy parties, I don't have a big circle of friends, and I'd probably just cash in early anyway. So yeah, feelin it with yall.

I even felt that way when I was a kid. When I was really young my family used to have these huge parties and they were so fun for all us kids. Then my uncle and aunt (who hosted the parties) got divorced and after that NYE was always lame. I remember lying in bed hearing neighbours having parties and crying.

This is what I've been saying to my friends lately. NYE is overrated. I know I sound all sad and lame but i think it's the expectation that I am meant to have a great night and be all happy that makes it depressing.

To me NYE is just another night. The new year is a good chance to start a fresh on aspects of my life but I'd much rather go out and party when the clubs are not overpacked, taxi lines are not hours long and cover fees are not tripled.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone here! I hate NYE. All the hype makes me feel nervous and inadequate. NYE is the one night I'm excited to go to work-- seriously-- just so I have an excuse for not doing something cooler, i.e., when people ask me what I did on NYE, I can be all, "Shucks, I had to work. Sounds like you had fun." That excuse rolls off the tongue way better than "I'm a socially anxious loser who's frightened of heavy drinking, crowds and loud noises."

Hey, last NYE I met my best-ever regular. He provided the majority of my income for 2007. So it actually worked out pretty good.
Drought was over. Where was I? Drinks were on the house.
For mixers, my love, you'd poured--what?--even the rain.

I don't look at it as "just another night". I look at it as the kickoff to a new year and why not start the new year having a great time?? It makes me feel like I'll have lots of great times in the new year, whereas if I sit home lonely and bored...the new year is not as exciting to me.

if I were single I would work. But I cant leave my boy alone on NYE that would be cruel coz he is a home body like me. But yeh working would be sooooooo much better than a party. Plus I heard the girls who worked last year did really well.

Thats awesome that you met a great regular on NYE.

Sigh. I really want NYE off b/c it's my boyfriend's birthday, and he's got the night off for the first time in ages. But I wanted to audition at a new club next week, and I can totally see them railroading me into working on NYE just b/c I'm new and don't have the leverage to say no.

Hmmm. I love NYE, but I have only liked it since I started throwing NYE parties. All the ones before I moved out of my parents house were pretty disappointing.

Screw going out! House parties are the way to go. But then again, thats how I feel about my free time in general anyway, not just new years.

I find all the holidays that way, some more than others. Don't find NYE the worst of the bunch, and I enjoy a small house part at my place, but don't generally like to stray far from the house as there are too many drunk idiots on the roads, etc.

I enjoy NYE. We usually have friends over (and their kids) and just sit around and gab...wait for the countdown and then trek home.

This year we're going to a NYE bash (that is kid friendly) and Joe will keep Makayla there until midnight (which she's fine with because there is dancing. LOL) I will be there for a little while and then I'll bring Adrian home and crash with him around 8pm (well, he'll crash at that time, I'll crash about 9pm).

Other than that, it's just another commercialization to get people to spend more money. I like the down low version much better.

I've always had horribly depressing NYE's. Nothing to do, working, going home and crying because I did nothing. This year we're going to Montreal though. We almost couldn't because my bf's shop got broken into, so he has to spend all his money on repairs. But we're going even if I have to pay for it all, I got way too excited about it to not go now!

I fucking love this post. I hate the crowds full of assholes, the stupid sluts giving me dirty looks cuz they know I'm a stripper, etc. Usually I don't give 5 fucks, but NYE is way too crowded. I know my damn boyfriend will want to go out and make a big deal out of it (read: anticlimatic), and last year he was really hurt that I didn't go out. So I'll have to do something this year. Oh well I guess I'll make the best of it. Just thinking about it makes me fucking depressed!

NYE is a major issue for me. If I stay home and do nothing, I feel like a complete, lifeless loser, though I can do that almost any other night of the year and be fine with it.

Usually, I just drink too much and get sick and piss off the wife. I think that is the plan for this year too. :-/

No, my stripclub experience has been about acceptance, and affirmation, and desirability...There have been some women who have a personality that just clicks with mine, and in the faux-sex atmosphere of the club, it's a mix that is completely seductive." - Jay Zeno

Eh I kind of want to celebrate every year, but then I get let down. I spent last NYE on a plane.

I find there is too much pressure to have fun on New Year's Eve. Like rather than just going out and having fun, it's like fun is breathing down your neck telling you that you are not having enough of it.

Last year the Roommate and I ditched a party and went to a movie. We had a good time.

New Year's is only fun when I hang with someone more depressed then I am, and we get really really drunk, and we vow to do something vaguely criminal to get back at our shitty year, but we just end up falling asleep in a snow bank. And then we get poked at by police.

But most often, I end up at a party with many people I don't know, and I'm in no mood to make friends. I might just go to work this year.

^^ Ha! Yes. But that's something I'd do again. I wanted to try in London, because they have these adorable giraffe barns (super high windows and roof! So cute! The giraffes lean out of them and look around like "S'up, tourists? Bet you wish we'd come say hi...suckahs")...but their security is much tougher to crack.

What I was referring to was the Great Veal-Calf Liberation attempt of 2004. But we chickened out when the barn dogs started to bark.
