W.T.F.?!
that could be potentially dangerous from their safety against other animals at night

^^^No kidding! They'd have to be permanent indoor cats.

This made me LOL but in a sad way.
Plus, that'd be scary as FUCK if you wake up drunk/high on something and see this glowing cat running around.
Shit, they're glowing eyes are scary enough.
"take it from me, to be a stripper, all you need to have is no talent!"
I think you guys aren't seeing the point of the article. The "glow in the dark" thing was just an easily-recognized experiment on the host animal's DNA.
From the article: "The implication is that if you can pass along the easy-to-recognize coding for fluorescent markers through cloning, you could eventually pass along more complex genetic coding. Theoretically, you could add in the coding for an endangered species, producing cloned hybrids to boost the gene pool for Sumatran tigers, Iberian lynxes and the like."
Glowing kitties wasn't the end result, it was a test to see if they COULD change the end result. Clone but change the DNA first. It was probably just the most obvious alteration they could make--they could have changed the DNA so the cats had purple eyes or something, it would have amounted to the same thing. Now that they know it's possible, they have a lot of options for experimenting and coming up with real breakthroughs.
I hope they are not hurting those cats.this kinda makes me sick to my stomach....
i used to dream militant dreams / of taking over america / to show these white folks how it should be done
i used to dream radical dreams / of blowing everyone away / with my perceptive powers of correct analysis
i even used to think / id be the one to stop the riot and negotiate the peace / then i awoke and dug
that if i dreamed natural dreams / of being a natural woman
doing what a woman does / when shes natural
i would have a revolution

This pisses me the fuck off!!

I don't like this either. I can't see cats wanting to glow. This makes me sad.

I have a confession... i didnt read the article... but i looked at the pics and saw the video

You don't have to feel so bad. Apparently 90% of the respondents to the original article didn't read it either. There are some doozy animal rights rants; which would be unnecessary had the respondents actually read the articles.
Dear Americans,
Please read and comprehend an article before choosing to add your comments. Seriously, your embarrassing me. Idiocracy is starting to look less like a comedy and more like a prophecy.

I read the article, and it still pisses me off.

They've been doing this for a while with fish. Taking the naturally ocurring phosphorescent/ flourescent gene from deep sea creatures and injecting it into other fish eggs to create 'glow in the dark' fish. They say that the glowing cells are activated when the fish becomes stressed in situations such as coming into contact with pollutants.
And what sunday morning said.
I'm a bit torn on this one. The outcome is potentially very useful but I always have trouble with the initial animal testing part.
XXXS

I still think it'd be trippy as fuck. Article or not.
"take it from me, to be a stripper, all you need to have is no talent!"
Could you imagine trippin on acid or shrooms and seeing that cat walk into the room. Freaky! LOL

The animal testing bothers me a bit, but...I hate to say it...they made the kitties glow for a "good?" reason. Not just to make them glow.
Yes, it's totally freaky... I'd jump out of my skin if I saw a glowing cat. But omg, the potential is huge for what they could learn.
THIS is what the world spends money on... Ayyy
Those poor cats.
