    Default Back problems-Diagnosis

Some of you may know that I've been having a lot of chronic backaches the last several months. I've done everything I could without having to resort to traditional medicine:

    1. Warming up before training, having my personal trainer ensure my form was ideal to prevent injury, and foam rolling muscles afterwards.

    2. Massage therapy. Icing muscles. Epsom salt baths.

    3. Got stability added to my bedframe, flipped mattress, and bought and expensive gel topper.

    4. Tried every OTC pill and ANALgesic that I could. Homeopathic stuff too.

    5. Worked on posture and sleep with a proper neck pillow.

To no avail...today I couldn't handle it. I wanted to jump out of my skin on the long car rides this afternoon. I took some OTC back pills and they did nothing. They are basically Tylenol. So I called the doctor.

Apparently I have myofascial pain syndrome and back tendonitis. This doesn't really mean anything, it just means my muscles are sore. A bit more on the subject:

He prescribed me Flexeril and gave me a signed referral to go to a Spine Rehab center. There, they can do a few thing: chiro adjustment if needed, heat, physical therapy, massage, ultrasound, and potentially even e-stimulation.

Fortunately, using an e-stim is one of the last steps in the process, since insurance rarely covers it.

What I have not tried is a pure chiro not acupunture, which I heard helps. The purpose of this thread is to help you other ladies with back pain. If you have a chance, go to your doctor; write down your symptoms, and what you've done to treat it in as much detail as possible. Ask lots of questions. Show the doctor on a chart of the back.

I pray that my problem is simply muscular and can be treated through continued massage, excersice, and therapy.

    Hope this helps!

Some more food for thought on the issue I put up a while back:

I've had chronic back pain for years because of my horse falls & injuries. I went to physiotherapy for a while, and it sort of helped, but did not give me the results I wanted. They told me a couple of my lower disks had pushed forward and herniated, so I'd have to take to time to push them back under with excercises.

The only thing that has helped me long term is yoga. For whatever reason, it has tremendously improved my flexibility and reduced the pain to nothing (when I keep up with it). I know everyone's different, but I went to doctors for a long time, and to specialists, and go figure that yoga was the answer. It's really cheap too. (It does make sense based on the kind of injury I had, I suppose).

But you totally have my sympathy. Back pain can be excrutiating and so debillitating. I remember being unable to bend over to pick things up, unable to drive...I still pick things up with my toes like a monkey, rather than bending over...if I can help it. I don't even realize I do it. Driving with the back roll pressed into the chair helps me a lot too.

The Flexeril was mildly relaxing but I'm still stiff and sore today. I think I'll foam roll and Epsom bath myself. I really need to pick up a lot of shit around the house, and keep putting it off.
