    Default makeup problem...help?

Whenever I put on eyeshadow, it always a) goes on looking washed-out and muted, and b) smears and fades even more after about an hour of wearing it.

How do you get eyeshadow to go on looking bright and vivid...and stay put for longer than an hour or two? I don't wear cheap makeup (usually MAC), I use primer, my skin isn't oily, and I use the right brushes (at least, I think I do!)...so I have no idea what's making my eye makeup look so shitty, smeary, washed out and faded. I love dramatic eye looks with lots of liner and really bold colors, but I can't get it to save my life--my shadow always looks faded and BLAH.

Are you getting a crusty line in the crease? Or is it just disappearing without a trace?

I read something about this the other day... What was it?
Eyebrow Gel! You smear a tiny bit over your lid and it glues it down apparently. But yeah it could just be the dampness of the gel...?

Urban Decay primer is awesome... What sort of primers do you use? It helps if theres a touch of oil or moisture to make the powder stick. I can get away even with a nude MAC paintpot layer, and it holds things in place nicely. Do you have really dry skin? I tend to, so without it, there's NOTHING holding it to my lids.

Are you using deep pigments and not creams? If you're using a damp brush and primer and it's still slipping off - a last resort might be hairspray.

Yeah I'm serious. Not exactly good for your skin, but if you really want your eyeshadow to stay then shut your eyes and spray.

sometimes, no matter how good the brand, if you have *too* much layered on, it will crease and wear away no matter what.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. LR, I've tried MAC prep+prime and the urban decay primer. nicole84...maybe I do layer on too much shadow. I think I'll try using less and applying with a damp brush.

^^The MAC Prep + Prime sucks bad. UDPP, maybe you are layering on too much??

I personally use MAC Shadesticks in Shimmersand or Beige-ing! for neutrals and the brightly colored ones to coordinate with bright shadow. The bright ones are really great for making your shadow pop. I use Sharkskin for eyes rimmed in black.

You can also try MAC Mixing Medium. Only available in Pro stores, but your e/s won't budge, plus it makes it super bright. Works great with pigments. If you use with your potted shadows make sure you only get a tiny portion of the shadow wet. You'll change the texture of the shadow if you spread your wet brush all over.

Also, are you putting any lotions or creams on your eyelids beforehand??
