It's also fairly disturbing to see that 40% of SW girls participating in the survey averaged less than $200 a shift ! Earnings this low really start to bring into question whether 'stripping' is worth the time and effort, versus working at a 'straight' job which provides some benefits, which provides something positive on resumes, which builds 'seniority', and which builds some future retirement / Social Security credit. Hopefully the economic situation will improve one of these days, but by most indications 2008 is likely to be worse than 2007 in terms of the general economy. This is even more disturbing if you consider that SW girls typically represent a segment of dancers who are, shall we say, 'above average' in terms of intelligence, appearance, and hustle - meaning that if SW girls are having these sort of earnings difficulties that 'other' dancers are probably having even MORE difficulties.
On the subject of earning over $4k in 4 shifts, that is a definite possibility in Manhattan clubs this time of year. The reason of course is that the big banks / brokers / corporations have already announced that big year end bonuses will be paid again this year. Of course, bonus time in December is followed by tax time in January, meaning that this month's Manhattan 'easy money' will drop drastically over the course of the next few months - as has happened like clockwork for the past few years at least !
