    Could this be illegal?

There was an ad on Craigslist I replied to. It says he wants an attractive female to come dance for him. He said in the ad that he don't like the clubs too much. I replied and asked how much he would pay and asked if I could have a friend come with me for security and I was sure to ask that all he wanted was dances.

He replied and said he would pay $200 for the hour and my male friend could come for security and all he wants is dances. I think $200 is a good price just for just dancing, I am really broke right now and really need money. It just seems a little strange. It isn't prostitution but a lot of cops do go on Craigslist and post ads to catch prostitutes. Do you think this could be a cop or is it even illegal since there is no sex involved? I just want to be safe.

Hmm I don't know honey. Is there like a little contract? It's well established that it's just dancing right?

Never discuss money for services. Vice is all over CL. And yea it could be considered illegal if they want to see it as exchanging money for adult services. Even if he only mentions Stripping for money. Cops pull this stuff all the time.

Depends on who is having a bad day imo.

I don't know if it's illegal, but it sounds really dangerous to me. Even if it's not dangerous, did you guys discuss what the ground rules are? Like, what does he actually expect from a $200 dance? How much contact? He might be assuming a lot more than seductive dancing and a little one way contact & grinding.

Red flags, in my own opinion. Safety would be a much bigger concern than just legality.

It doesn't sound illegal. You specifically told him not to expect any sex and it doesn't seem like it was wink wink or anything like that. Private parties are not illegal as long as what is being contracted for is legal. Dances are legal so it seems like everything is okay on the legal end.

This may help a little. Write up a little contract and have your bodyguard (er business manager) collect the money. And when there make sure you hold to the scope of what you two agreed to, even if he gets a bit handsy. Be sure to mention that you usually do parties for groups instead, like bachelors etc.

    Hope it works out well.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

    See below for NC law.

    Sec 14‑203. Definition of terms.

The term "prostitution" shall be construed to include the offering or receiving of the body for sexual intercourse for hire, and shall also be construed to include the offering or receiving of the body for indiscriminate sexual intercourse without hire. The term "assignation" shall be construed to include the making of any appointment or engagement for prostitution or any act in furtherance of such appointment or engagement. (1919, c. 215, s. 2; C.S., s. 4357.)

FYI: I just found out that NC law is really weird. Apparently, secret societies are illegal, it is against the law to "fornicate" outside of marriage and falsely registering at a hotel as husband and wife is illegal if you intend to use the hotel for sex. Sheesh.

It also says, for NC, at http://www.prostitutionprocon.org/law.htm....

§ 14 204: Prostitution and various acts abetting prostitution unlawful
    It shall be unlawful:

    (2) To occupy any place, structure, building, or conveyance for the purpose of prostitution or assignation; or for any person to permit any place, structure, building or conveyance owned by him or under his control to be used for the purpose of prostitution or assignation, with knowledge or reasonable cause to know that the same is, or is to be, used for such purpose.
    (3) To receive, or to offer or agree to receive any person into any place, structure, building, or conveyance for the purpose of prostitution or assignation, or to permit any person to remain there for such purpose.
    (4) To direct, take, or transport, or to offer or agree to take or transport, any person to any place, structure, or building or to any other person, with knowledge or reasonable cause to know that the purpose of such directing, taking, or transporting is prostitution or assignation.
    (5) To procure, or to solicit, or to offer to procure or solicit for the purpose of prostitution or assignation.
    (6) To reside in, enter, or remain in any place, structure, or building, or to enter or remain in any conveyance, for the purpose of prostitution or assignation.
    (7) To engage in prostitution or assignation, or to aid or abet prostitution or assignation by any means whatsoever.

Hmmmm, be very very careful with this.

I don't know your state laws, but here to go to ones home or establishment outside of a adult bar, and entertain like that the girls need a license and they STILL get questioned by the police.

Here, if a girl is caught going to a man's house or hotel room with the intent of entertaining him with "adult entertainment, and is not licensed she will get in some hot water. Be so so so careful. 200 bucks may not be worth going to jail for a night or getting a hefty fine.

K, I don't know if this is your area or not, but chances are the rules are the same for most of the state, go here and read this....it talks about the licensing needed to be able to do what you are talking about.

I just worry about her doing it off of craigslist. It's like swimming with sharks, at some point one of them will bite.

Just because you don't get caught doesn't mean it ain't illegal.

Thanks for everyones responses. I had to work all day yesterday and I am about to go back to work now. I would have responded sooner.

After reading these I don't think that i'm gonna do it. It isn't worth it if it is illegal and he is a cop which there is a good chance he is if it is illegal. I have a weird feeling about it too and i'm gonna trust my feelings.

I'm with you, Michele--if you have an instinct against it you have to listen to that. I don't know anything about the specifics of the law, but I know a little bit about human nature and I don't like the sound of this.
