Especially after reading Darcy's thread. Everybody has been asking me and I said I didn't want anything but I finally figured it out. I want a tazer. If I don't get a tazer I'd settle for a dog. (I already have the puppy.)

Whachoo gonna taze, bro?
I dunno. Random strangers.![]()
My bf found me one on ebay.
A year ago, I found a switchblade (a tactical one) on ebay. They aren't available anymore, however. Ebay has been tightening up.

I want one too! I was looking at them the other day in Academy, they aren't terribly expensive. And they come in different colors LOL
They're nice to have! I've never actually had to use mine, but it helped scare one person away and it makes me feel a lot better to carry when I'm in a bad neighborhood or something.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
hah yeah i think i'll be investing in one of these too!!
I got mine at the gun show. 400,000 volts will slow an attacker down.
Check your area pawnshops or see when there is a gun show in your area.
Lucky, check out my recent thread, we discussed tazers at length. I want the super-duper fancy one!

Damn..now I want to go to the range this weekend. After being assaulted twice in as many weeks...I REALLY have the urge to shoot my guns for awhile.
The gun show offers low cost, one day classes to obtain your concealed weapons permit...I'm def going to do it at either the Jan or Feb show(depending on when I'm in town). I've been putting it off for too long.

There's this whole RCMP debate about tazers right now...after they accidentally killed a dude at the airport...And apparently other deaths?
I like the idea of protection, but I wouldn't want to inadvertently kill somebody. I'd kill in self-defense, but I'd have to be sure. Would not want to kill a guy I thought was attacking me, but maybe he was just really drunk and stumbly? I dunno. I didn't like that potential lethality thing.
^ i feel the same. i mean, i wouldn't wanna kill someone just for lurking outside my window. yeah, i'd like to fuck them up a bit and make sure they don't do it again, but i couldn't live with myself if i actually killed them.

I know. It sucks. I own guns of all sorts, but damn buying a tazer is easy peasy these days now, but fuck if you use it...![]()
Better have a damn good reason to tazer a person. Fl. sucks about that shit. But you can amo the fuck out of someone for fear of your life and get off real easy. They need to get their shit together.
I have looked at many Tazers. But am a pistol lover. If i'm in fear for my life, that fuck is going down.
There have a been around 100 tazer related deaths in the US AND Canada since 2001. And most of those were people with underlying issues such as heart problems.
Personally..I wouldnt use it unless someone was actually coming after me(and I saw it a sa true attack and not just a drunk guy stumbling into me)....and if they are...tehy sdeserve whatever happens IMO. Someone attacks me, I defend myself and they are one of the very small percentage that dies from it? I'll sleep ok. They brought it on themselves.
Good lord i hope i never get tazered!!!!!!!! (me poor heart)
Not suprisingly, there is a gunshow every weekend in a major city in Texas. My crazy cop friend has a business that sells guns, tasers, knives, military gear, etc.
I'll have to check out if they have the permit training there. Still, I am not comfortable with a gun. Last night I was at my X's, and his roomie had his gun stuff lying around. Makes me nervous.
I thought I would have the discretionary income to buy the fancy tazer in the last few weeks of the year, but I don't. Uncle Sam wants his dues!![]()

What about bear mace, the stuff hunters carry? I don't know much about it. If it'll stop a bear, it's got to be pretty decent at human-sized threats, right? Although animals are very primitive and practical about pain and survival, whereas a human attacker has rage/anger emotions in play. So a bear might be easier to discourage with mace than a human. Still, with no risk of lethality, anyone know how effective it is?
Lestat, I kind of doubt rage is a recent human evolutionary development that other animals don't share... Have you ever seen animals fight? Holy crap if that's not rage I don't know what is!
Also just because something's non lethal for bears doesn't mean it's non lethal for humans. Likewise it doesn't mean it's necesarily very effective either (although I kind of suspect it is). Google could probably clear it up though.

When animals fight, it's typically symbolic, and when it's not, it's measured against the gain. An average-sized shark could easily defeat a human, yet if a person can hurt them enough, the shark will give up and find easier prey. They tend to lack the "Hey you hit me, I'm gonna get you!" rage/anger/vengeance/whatever you want to call it response that people have. It's almost computer like: if need for food > pain from fight, then fight, else flee.
A google search and reading a few sites: seems non-lethal (definitely some question about this) but very effective on humans. Indirect or some contact caused burning eyes and shortness of breath. So I can see how on someone with a pre-existing lung condition it could be fatal.![]()
