    Default tip or drink?

Almost all the clubs i've been to have different prices for customer's drinks vs. dancer's drinks. I'm guessing, when you buy the dancer a drink, she probably gets a cut out of the drink sold?? Most of the time, they don't even finish their drink.

So..can someone give me one good reason why I should not just tip her $10, instead of buying her a $10 drink? I mean, if she really wants a drink, she can use the tip to buy herself a drink, if not..she can just keep the tip.

Some of us have a drink quota. We don't get a cut of the drink sold, but if we don't make our quota of 'ladies drinks' we have to shell out the cash it would cost for a guy to buy our drinks.

I worked in a club where I had to sell 10 a shift, and they were $6 each. If I only sold half of them I had to pay $30 to make up for the drinks that I was supposed to have guys buy for me. Half the time I wasn't even thirsty, but I didn't want to pay the money for the drinks if I didn't meet my quota.

^^ whatever you may think about the rule it is still there and enforced (from what I have read) in many clubs. Thus, in the end, ask the dancer herself if she has a drink quota she has to match that night ... and if she doesn't have a drink quota then tip her. If she had a drink quota, buy the damn drink.

All I know is that I'm thankful here in Australia I have yet to come across a strip club where there are drink quotas for the dancers (or even "dancer drinks") so I prefer (as would any stripper in any Aussie strip club) the tip over the drink please.

Whether or not it's a crummy rule wasn't the question. The OP wanted to know a 'good reason' why he should buy the girls drinks instead of tipping them the money it costs for a drink, and I gave a good reason. Yeah, it's a rule that sucks, but strip clubs have tons of rules that suck.

Well...at my club we dont have drink quotas, but sometimes I do actually want a drink. And buying one myself isnt really an option..when there are paying customers..they want THEM to buy the drinks, not us.And no, we dont get a cut of it.

That said...if you cant afford to buy a drink and a dance...I'd rather have the $10. If you can afford it...just shut up and buy the damn drink. Is it REALLY that much od an issue to pay a cpl extra dollars? You arent just paying for the drink...you are paying for the time t takes for me to sit there and drink it. As far as the club is concerned...if there are other guys i could be getting dances or champagne rooms with(and thus making more for myself AND the club)you should at least shell out a cpl dollars to compensate for taking me away from those customers for that time.

Ask the girl BEFORE a waitress or bartender comes up. In many places....we arent allowed to say no. So if the waitress hears you..I'll have to say I prefer the drink.

I'll disagree with this. At my old club, there wasn't a drink quota but you could get fired for refusing a drink or saying anything that would be interpreted as refusing a drink. The club did that because girls did not receive any portion of profits from the drink, but we were required to tell customers we did. If asked if we wanted a drink or a tip, or if a drink would help us, or any such question, we were required to say we wanted the drink or get fired. May be a shitty rule, but at least we didn't have a quota.

Basically, it depends on the club but I would guess that most of the time the club profits more than the dancer on the drinks while the dancer profits more than the club on tips.

I've worked at clubs where they request you not turn down a drink. But it doesn't have to be alcoholic, it can be RedBull, or anything that they can turn over at a huge profit.

Its not about being to afford it or not...and YES...it is an issue to pay a cpl extra dollars. The bottom line is, whats it worth? You spend money on whatever its worth...weather it be 1000 bucks or 50 cents. think of it this way...if someone was trying to sell you a penny for 50 cents vs. a 1-week vacation to Paris for 1000 bucks...what would you prefer? Its not about the money, its about the value. And as far as paying for the time to sit and drink it is concerned, a lot of dancers don't even finish their drinks. They get their drink, sell their dances and move on (which is perfectly fine, but then why waste money on the drink??)

why not just ask her if she'd rather have the money? i've had customers do that and i didn't mind at all. i'd usually get one drink (since no other dancer can come over if you have a drink unless invited..club rules) and then i'd just "take the tip" the rest of the time.

I always take the drink. I get thirsty as hell. I'll get the "nice" water so I'm sure it counts for the waitress and it keeps me going, so win win. If for some reason I wasn't thirsty, then yha, I'd obviously rather have the tip.

I think that clubs can not make it on tip outs and cover charges alone. They have to sell the liquor. The license itself is incredibly high. If they didn't make money from the sale of booze they would up the fees from girls, they would eventually leave and the club closes.

If you spend $260.00 on an "entertainer" and the same on drinks, what do you the "entertainer" would have preferred? If she is alot of fun you don't need to spend that much on drinks anyway. Or you can go to a B.Y.O.B pay the higher cover but still have more fun with an all nude dancer.

I hate spending money on alcohol. For me, it's the principle of the matter. I haven't gotten drunk since college and the idea of just hanging around buying drink after drink just doesn't really appeal to me. I just tell the dancer I don't drink much and would rather save my money for dances. No one has ever had a problem except one time that was really awkward because there was a waitress practically demanding I get a drink. That time, I bought one. Usually, I buy a beer at the bar and place it in a spot on the table where it is easily visible to waitresses. If a dancer asks me for a drink away from the presence of the waitreess then I will buy one but that never happens.

Also, I'm pretty sure that no Houston clubs have the drink minimums. I've never gotten pressure from the dancers to buy drinks so I assume not. I could be wrong though.

One more thing. If I buy a dancer a drink and buy myself a beer, does that count as 2 drinks toward a drink quota under the theory that I bought the beer to enjoy the dancer's company which makes it a sale on her part? Just curious.

Houston clubs have no drink quotas for dancers. There is a 2 drink minimum at some clubs, but it isn't always enforced. When I waitressed in Htown, we enforced it on the cheap bastards that wasted space for hours nursing one Budweiser, trying to get a free show, and not buying dances, etc....

No, If you sat alone for any amount of time then the drink is not counted. It must be requested in the company of you entertainer to count, water, soda and juice don't count. Furthermore, a shot of whiskey and coke chaser don't count as 2 drinks.

You have a lot to learn there grasshopper. Namely the fact that strip clubs have been in the business of getting their customers the hand over their money and give little value in return for it for a long time. Dancer drinks are one of the oldest scams in the book.

In any case, you don't have to buy one, and while you're welcome to tip her in lieu of buying a drink, it isn't going to count towards her quota and some of her tip is going to go to the club if she doesn't make that quota.

Usually not. Read the OP's post again. In most cases where "dancer drinks" are sold they're a higher price for the exact same thing. In some cases, the "drink" is just code for paying for a dancer's time. Clubs around here sell them at a range of prices from $10-$100 (and then you have to pay for the actual drink at regular price on top of that!) and usually give the girls a 75% commission. The dancer drinks are often served in a different type of glass to distinguish them from the customer drinks.

Wow...I knew that some clubs required the dancers to sell a certain # of drinks, but I was NOT aware that some clubs do not allow dancers to turn down a drink. I turn 'em down all night long, saying "I'd rather work for my money" and trying to get a dance from the customer instead. (Generally speaking, not a lot of money coming through my club and I'd rather funnel it into my pocket rather than down my throat.) Anyway, if I'm not being required to sell/drink, I'd much rather take a tip for my time.

Just ask if they want a drink or want it added to the tip. I prefer to give it as a tip, I figure, if they have a drink minimum, well my tip just covered the drink(s) I would have bought, and if they don't have a drink minimum or have already covered it then they'd usually rather have the money.

Use some tact when you ask though, don't make it so that they have to say they want the drink, i.e. ask them in front of club staf...
