    Default Question about pregnancy

After you give birth, what does your stomach look/feel like?? How long does it take to go down to its normal flatness?

There's no way to answer that. It varies for each woman. It depends on her body type, her fitness level before becomming pregnant, how much weight she gained, how much she cared for her body during pregnancy....

My cousin had a baby when she was 18. She barely gained 25 lbs. She was a tiny girl to begin with. At8 months, she looked like she was only 5 months pregnant. She never really "popped" She had an 8lb baby, but it just never showed on her. No stretch marks, nothiing. She was back to normal in under a month.

My other friend was also tiny, but she popped out majorly huge. She only gaiend abotu 35 bs, but it looked like all in her stomach. Her tummy is permenantly ruined. It looks like an accordian, or a loaf of bread dough.

It just depends so much.....one way to sort of tell what your tummy will be like is how yoru mother, aunt, grandmother looked after giving birth. For example, the women in my family have all gotten way huge, grown massive boobies and basicially didn't come out all that great. That's what I assume I have in store for myself.....sadly...

What do you mean by "popping"? If I could see a picture of a baby belly that popped versus one that didn't maybe i'd understand.

When the belly actually pops out. Like, your prgnant, and your starting to show a little, a little more, and then one day you wake up and BAM! it popped out!
hmm....lemme see if I can find....

I went from 110 pounds to 145 - so I gained 35 pounds, and all in the belly/baby. I had a pretty tight tummy, I've never carried weight around my middle, so my skin did have to stretch a whole lot. When you're pregnant your skin on your tummy itches because it's getting stretched so tight. After I had my baby I had a round belly for about a month maybe and then it went down. When I started dancing 5 months later I had a small tummy again but I still had a faint dark line going from my belly button down and some saggy skin. The saggy skin isn't terrrible, I mean it sounds pretty bad, but it showed when I'd bend over or some random move.

Now, over a year later, it's almost 100% back to normal. I still have a little extra skin around my belly button. Like if I pushed the skin together it "accordian" folds, that's a great word for it Kaylinn, and looks all wrinkly.

I did a bunch of pilates before hand and had a ton of abdominal strength. And I was fairly active during my pregnancy - WHICH, if I did it again, I'd be more careful - I got amn abdominal diastis, like the ab muscles that run up and down separated under the stress and so I had this gap, post partum, when I'd be on my back and flex my abs to sit up it would pop into a triangle shape where my abs were apart - it was gross. It heeled but I think it made recovery a little slower. I'll be gentler if I get pregnant again.

Oh, one last thing, the belly button I had the little tiniest little round belly button and now...it's sort of squished. Like collapsed or something. Not a big deal, but I notice it all the time.

It depends on each person and each pregnancy .With my first my stomach went back down and I had actually lost weight and was 95 pounds and did nothing but sleep and eat all day, with my second it was wrinkly and I got bad strechmarks even though I exercised applied all the strechmark crap and it still didn't work .

    Well I lucked out.

Before my baby was born I was 5'2" 115 lbs. I gained 40 lbs with the pregnancy. I didn't get any stretch marks and luckily my boobs managed to stay intact.

After my baby was born, my tummy stuck out a bit. I still looked pregnant for a few months. I had a bit of weight to lose...had the muffin top/love handle thing going on. But I exercised and lost most of the weight. I still have 8 more lbs to lose. While I am not as tight as before I don't have stretch marks or loose skin, and I'm starting to show a nice "V" again, thanks to tons of abdomiinal exercises. After I lose the 8 lbs I'll be back to normal.

It varies. Mine went back to normal almost imeadiatly after the birth. It was "jellyish" for about 5 days, I guess a bit like a deflated balloon and then all of the excess skin peeled off and I was back to normal, same size etc.

After I had Makayla, my belly went back pretty fast (I was back into my pre-preg clothes within 10 days and my belly got firm, again, in about 1 month). With Adrian it took a little longer for the belly to go back to firm. We'll see how it happens with the next baby.

It all depends on the person.

4 months later mine is still not back to normal. I definitely don't look pregnant, but I' don't look how I did before. I gained 30 pounds and have lost (at last weigh in a month ago) 26 pounds, but my weight is in different places now. I wasn't working out the last half of my pregnancy, so I lost alot of muscle. Mostly, my tummy doesn't look the same because I have this layer of pudge. It's slowly melting away and I think will be gone in a few more months and will go faster once I return to work and all of my normal activities.

One of my stripper friends told me to realistically give myself a year to get back to completely normal physically before I start to get down about my body...

I've been told realistically it takes 9 months to put it on and 9 months to take it off.

I imagine it depends on the style of delivery (vaginal v. c-section).
