Default the stripper who's gonna win an oscar

Diablo Cody rules, man. Probably that's been mentioned here before.

I'm making a special trip to Toronto sometime soon just because I cannot wait to see Juno.

For a first attempt at screen writing, it's just such an amazing accomplishment. I wish I could soul-clone mini versions of D.C. and Ellen Page, and have them sit on my shoulder, narrating my life. It would be so entertaining.

I'm so psyched for her. I absolutely loved Candy Girl (though I know opinions here have been divided, it's just my favorite brand of snarky style), I love the Pussy Ranch blog, she just seems all-around like my kinda girl. So talented - I hope Hollywood doesn't ruin her too soon!

I can't wait to see it either!

I think I've said on here before that I didn't like Candy Girl, I have to admit that I am now dying to see this movie. It looks so funny. I think the writing style that put me off from her book would be absolutely perfect for a movie.

Wow, people actually think she's funny... (two years after reading her book and I STILL remember the shitty hyperboles)

I thought it was the similes you had a problem with?

I think it looks like a really good movie. I didn't read her stripper book, but I don't see what one really has to do with the other. Writers mature, and screenplays are entirely different than personal memoirs.

Well, I read the screenplay: http://www.foxsearchlight.com/awards/scripts/juno.pdf

I haven't read Candy Girl, though. I just think that is the funniest, most original, heartfelt script I've ever read. Not that I'm an expert or anything. But I'll she wins...or becomes some big thing. I dunno. I just love her humour and characters.

Good for her, it's nice to see dancers / x-dancers succeed. I can't wait to see the movie, it looks hysterical

So, I'm reviving an old thread. I saw Juno and thought it was cute and funny.

I just read 'Candy Girl'. Again, it was quick, cute and funny reading. But I couldn't believe the treatment she got from these managers that she worked for.

Is Deja Vu really that bad? I did an amateur night at one but never worked there. It scared the crap out of me.

I loved Juno, but I'm a little upset everybody is shocked she won an Oscar.

Strippers are people, too, in most cases.

I didn't love Juno. I mean, it was obviously better than I could do, but I thought it lacked flow and, honestly, that Ellen Page came off as a little bit twee. Like "well now, isn't she precocious."

Jennifer Garner should stick to playing chars like her role in Juno and stop pretending she's an action star.

That's spooky, I thought the same thing. I had read all the reviews prior, and they all gushed about her character. When I left the theater, my overiding feeling was, her character's total "coolness" didn't seem believable to me for a person that age. Too smart, hip, witty...I don't know. Not believable. I was thoroughly entertained by the movie though. Liked it a lot.

Yeah, I've heard Deja Vu is really that bad. I've never set foot in one, I've boycotted them just on the basis of their reputation. Usually a reputation like that is earned.

I loved Juno. Yeah, Juno isn't a typical kid, that's the point. She's quirky and weird and a bit precocious, and she talks funny. I was like that too. Not every movie character has to be a stereotype.

I don't think the opposite of "twee and precocious" is "stereotypical". But it's okay Yek - people are allowed to disagree on movies. It was fine; it just didn't live up to the hype; it didn't strike a chord of honesty and genuineness in me.

Fair enough. Everyone isn't going to like every movie.
