Does anyone have experience with an industrial and/or monroe piercing? I'm really interested in getting both of those and want to hear about some experiences with pain, etc, as well as if it affected your work at all?

"take it from me, to be a stripper, all you need to have is no talent!"

darcy just got a monroe... it looks HOT!![]()

What's an industrial piercing?
I have both, although I no longer wear the marilyn (monroe) as I had to take it out for a "real" job. In any case, I didn't find that either piercing really affected my work too much, however facial piercings of any sort are going to turn off a certain clientele. Specifically the older white collar types...unless of course they are fetishy, but that's a whole different ball game.
The pain wasn't terrible for me, but I have an unusually high tolerance and use piercings as a sort of catharsis...an outlet for stress if you will. The monroe was less intense than my nostril, and more intense than my labret. The tissue of your upper lip is more dense than that of your lower lip, thus requiring more force resulting in more trauma to the area. Fortuantely the mouth is one of the fastest healing regions of the body. Unfortunately (especially with a labret) you can sustain permananent damage to the teeth and gums...talk to your piercer about the best jewelry to minimize that damage.
I still wear and love my industrial...Taylorlila, this http://www.bmezine.com/pierce/01-ear...mepb617439.jpg is what one looks like. I wear a bar that fits much more snugly now though. I never noticed that this particular piercing affected my work at all...most of the time the customers didn't even see it, especially if my hair was down. Healing time with a cartliage piercing can be a very, very long time....it is not uncommon for it to take a year to completely heal up. The initial puncture is pretty crazy...I really can't say that I felt much pain. I was more amazed by the sound that it made when the needle popped through the tissue...it sounded like a cork coming out of a bottle. I did run into some healing problems though on the hole closer to my face. Becuase of the placement, shampoo and conditioner as well as other hair products can (and did on mine) easily get into the fresh piercing and irritate it causing an infection. Should that happen you need to get to your piercer asap so he can have a look at it, and tell you the best course of action to clear it up...your hair can wrap around it, and it hurts like a bitch if you hit it with a hairbrush. Try to get it on the side that you don't sleep on, as that can cause quite a bit of irritation as well. Talk to your piercer about doing the initial piercing with two rings rather than the one barbell at first...that minimizes stress from being pulled on. After 6 to 8 weeks, he should be able to switch you out with a barbell.
So I guess I've rambled enough...feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

I've heard an industrial can be pretty painful to get. Not unbearably so, but just a warning.

I've had my industrial pierced twice. The first time was done by a piercer who didn't have a long enough bar, but decided it would do just fine anyway. The swelling back up against the too-short bar, and continued to swell because it was aggravated. I ended up taking it out.
I pierced it the second time with tri-bevel pre-sterilized needles at 14g with a PTFE bar (teflon material). I struck a vein or vessel of some sorts and bled am impressive amount (though I didn't notice it at first because of the HUGE rush I got when the needle finally went through), mopped it up, whipped out a second needle and pierced the second hole, slid the bar through, screwed on the end, and i was good to go! Healed in about six months, which is standard for a helix piercing. I had it for about two years. I took it out when it started to get swollen while I slept from sleeping on the bar. I miss it. :/
Thinking of getting my tragus done next, professionally. I don't recommend doing the DIY way (my disclaimer)

I'm getting a Munroe next month! Can't wait.

I have a Monroe. Initially I was worried about it affecting my work, because I already have my nose and tongue pierced too. I thought maybe it would be too much and it would turn some customers off. I have absolutely no regrets about it at all! I love it and I get complimented about it all the time. It didn't hurt at all when I got, I only felt a little pinch.

^^You sexy creature! I'm going to go and get a monroe after exams. I have decided. The boy is not thrilled, but eh, it's my mouth. How long will my mouth/lip be out of comission? My nose was pretty ouchy for about a week, but healed up quickly.
^^^your average healing time for mouth/lip piercings other than the tongue are going to be about 6-8 weeks, but the initial discomfort and swelling should dissipate within a week or so. It is important to remember that time frame is the initial healing period in which you shouldn't attempt to remove the jewelry. It can take up to three months for them to heal completely, but does vary from person to person given variables like your bodies ability to heal, how healthy you are, how much trauma was inflicted at the time of piercing, and how your body reacts to the jewelry you are wearing.

I have my industrial. honestly out of all my piercings it hurt the most. i couldnt sleep on that side for about 4 months and it took about 6 months to a year to heal fully. I love it though.

^^You're welcome![]()

I like my monroe, my lip piercing is waning on me however.

Yes me too. I had this piercing for 3 years and am still incredibly pissed that I had to take it out and will now have to go thru it again when I get it done again!!
Be real careful, don't take any aspirin or anything, it BLEEEEDS.
But when it got done healing, it was absolutely perfect!
I've had: eyebrow, nipples, bellybutton, and a bar thru my chest, and the industrial bar hurt the worst.
I've never danced with it, but I don't think an ear piercing will affect the types of guys who talk to you.
hey alaska i had the surface bar through the sternum tooo!!! i miss that thing so much... ;(
I had a monroe for about 6 weeks but took it out for clinicals and because the boy absolutely hated it and wouldn't quit ragging on it. The actual piercing was a bit uncomfortable but it healed in about 6 weeks and was very easy to take care of. Eating/drinking wasn't bothersome at all, though the jewelry took a bit of getting used to.
I haven't had my industrial pierced (ears are too small, 'tis a shame) but I have three other cartilage piercings and they're pretty pissy to heal.
I've taken my industrial out... but I didn't think it hurt very bad at all and I thought it looked awesome!
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
LOL yeahhhh that's the shitty part.. it gets caught on my teeth when I'm going down on my bf.
