    Newbie With A Few Questions...

I've just recently started going to strip clubs and I have a few questions.

First off, whenever I get dances from a dancer who I've never meet before they always ask me what I do, main reason for this (and I'm not trying to brag) is because I always carry a lot of money with me. And I don't feel comfortable telling them what I do mainly because 90% of the time no one really believes me when I tell them, and the rest of the time they have no clue what it is I really do (this goes for people I meet outside of SC as well). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could say, or how I could get out of answering the question without looking like a prick?

Also, as far as tipping goes I always tip the bartender well but should I be tipping the bouncers as well?

    Thanks!

I think the best thing for inside and outside of a strip club is not to advertise how much money you carry at all. If you mention you have money at a club its like an invitation for the dancers to flock to you and try to clear out you wallet. It's their job. And then if you don't spend the money you talk about it will make the dancers mad.
I would suggest not carrying cash on you, but rather keep your money on an atm card. This way you don't have to tell people OTC why you have so much cash. Its not their business.

One option is to be somewhat vague. Consulting or sales are two good examples if they apply.

Another option is to simply answer a different question.
    Dancer: What do you do?
You: I do all sorts of things. Right now, I have this great new hobby where I (insert great new hobby here)

    Or you could try humor.
    Dancer: What do you do?
You: I'm a secret time travel agent.

    Or my favorite...
    Dancer: What do you do?
You: Very little when I get the chance.

"What do you do?" can be a general catch-all question. Some guys like to talk about their careers, some like to talk about their hobbies, some about kids, some about what they do for entertainment.

I would disagree with an ATM card as a primary funds in the club. Club CC fees are outrageous. Use the ATM card for backup. Bring plenty of cash. Go ahead and tell the girls about it, strippers are excellent at making origami characters out of money.

So why do you have to carry all this cash? You drive an armoured car or something?

I ask everyone "what do you do?" It has nothing to do with cash. It's just small talk. I'll probably forget in 5 minutes unless you have an unusually interesting job. However, I know some guys don't like to say. I think it's kind of weird that htey think I'm going to use this information to compromise them, but hey - there are lots of things I don't tell customers, right? So a simple "I'd rather not say" is fine.

In terms of your cash - I'm sorry are they asking you "So, how much cash do you have on you right now?" Why is it coming up? Because that is impolite.

You said the main reason for them asking what you do is because you are carrying a lot of money. This would imply that you showed evidence of the money before they asked. Are you possibly ( just a little bit ) flaunting the money in the club ?

"What do you do? " can be a conversation starter .

I'm racking my brain right now to think of what other job ( besides drug dealer ) would reguire large amounts of cash on hand at all times. . . .

Lol I thought Say "drug Dealer" too.

To the OP, just go in the club dressed casual, and only take a certain amount with you. When you pull $ out, don't pull out a whole wad with it.
You just need to tone it down a bit, that's all.

A tip: When i danced, i went after the suit and tie guys first, i looked in the parking lot to see what kind of vehicles are out there and if a guy pulled a huge wad of cash out, i would hang with him for his money. Dancers have hustling skills, you need to have some skills as well. Tone it down, that's it

Any dancer in her right mind would be attracted to your money.

When I ask that question, it always means "what are your hobbies" or "what do you do for fun". I doubt they are asking what you do for work...that's just rude.

Why would that be rude? It isnt asking how much they make..THAT would be rude. But most guys like to talk about their job..either to vent or brag or whatever. I dont think its a rude question at all.

I might not want to answer truthfully if, say, I'm on city council or in the highway patrol.

Actually, now that I think about it, "City Councilman" is a good answer. If you're wanting to live up to your avatar, "I manage the family investments" might generate conversation.

LOL that's too funny, I never even noticed his av. I stopped looking at the boys' avatars cuz they don't show boobies.

And yeah I only ask about job as a conversation starter. I've had teachers and truckers spend more on me than oil barons, job is not really a good indication of how much green they're actually going to throw around.

You could just say the general field you work in and then change the subject. Like, "Oh I work in finance. So what do you do?? School, travel, or what?"

How come it is OK to ask a customer what his job is, but it is not OK to ask a dancer if she has a day job or goes to school?

Seems to me if one is OK, so is the other, and vice versa.

Only if you're assuming that the general security and privacy concerns are equal. Most people would intuit that we have a a greater investment in privacy in a stripclub than the average customer. Same as when dancer's give fake names it is normal and when customer's do it, it's stupid.

But when dancers and customers are uncertain with the other, there is a certain trepidation in providing answers to even the most basic questions no matter how stupid one might perceive the other in being in doing so. In most cases it seems to fade with familiarity. At the end of the day, we all seem to think "I'm right; you're wrong". And, later - "I'm really right!; and you're not!!"

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Well, since I am an elementary school teacher (retired now, but I am still substituting), it could become very difficult for me if it became known that I regularly frequent strip clubs. I am sure YOU understand that I can enjoy a lap dance and still treat a fifth grade girl with respect. But if the parents knew, there would be demands that their children not be taught by me. If the people at my church knew, I would be ostracized. So, I DO use a fake name in strip clubs (surprise, it's Mike), I always pay cash, and I never go to local clubs.

Sure, these concerns are not as serious as your wanting to not be stalked or raped, but they are very real concerns to me. I do NOT think it is stupid for me to use a fake name.

Okay - I'm sorry I said it was stupid. I still think it's kind of paranoid - but po-tay-to/po-tah-to.
I cannot accept that a dancer's fear of of being stalked or harassed is only as a legitimate as a customer's fear of being blackmailed because he's a kindergarten teacher at a strip club. To me that is sort of like saying that a woman taking precautions while walking home alone late at night is on par with a woman refusing to leave her house for fear of terrorist bombings.

In any case - the word "stupid" doesn't substantially change my point that the kind of thing that dancers deal with on a regular basis make security and privacy a big, big concern in a way that just cannot be reasonably compared to customers. (and I left out all characterizations, this time!)

I'm gonna take a different stance on this...

If you don't wanna say what you do for a living...don't. If you want, lie. I typically don't ask unless a customer mentions something about 'work' before then. Cuz frankly, I don't care. The reason those above questions irritate ME, (well, the other job one, not the school one), is most of the time they are an assumption that dancing couldn't POSSIBLY be the only thing you do, cuz, well, ya know, it's DANCING.

The 'what else do you do', can be rude, depending on how it's asked. So I've taken to responding with
    "well, what do you do"?
"oh, i'm a construction worker, mortgage broker, blah blah blah whatever"
"Oh. Well. What else do you do? Night job? School? That's it??"
I believe you Dottie and you have my support

yeah, even your avatar is alot of cash, so it seems like your opening yourself up to the question.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Just a few things though. First off, I realize that the dancer could careless as to what I do for a living and is just trying to be nice/keep a conversation.

I also don't think its rude on the dancers part for asking but the reason I don't like telling anyone really (not just dancers) what I do is because they think I'm lying.

Actually I never flaunted money while I was in the club. The only time the dancer saw how much I had was at the end of the dance when I went to pay her.

I actually asked the dancer what she thought I did for a living when she asked me and she said asked if I was a drug dealer.

I admit there aren't too many jobs that require having large amounts of cash on hand but if anyone on this board could actually guess what I do for a living I would be very impressed and shocked. And no what I do is not illegal in anyway, at least in Canada and a few places in the U.S.
