Default Laser hair removal - your experience?

Yay my first poll! *does a pole--I mean, poll dance*

So I'm thinking about stuff I need to save up for next year, and laser hair removal seems like a good idea so I'm not spending $170 getting waxed everywhere every month. Spend a little more, save a lot, kinda thing? I know some of yall have been lasered and I wanted to see what your experience was like. Are you happy you did it or was it less than you hoped for? If you have not undergone, is that because you are less than enthused with what it can do or are you not a "good candidate" due to skin/hair color? Or the obligatory "other"?

    Thanks for your help!

I got it and it worked really well on the bikini area, but on my lips and in the crack of my ass (two places I hate shaving) it's like half gone.

My underarms are like 85% gone, so I only need to shave those like once a week. I guess it's an improvement, but not like I had hoped. They warned me about areas with darker skin tones, but I'm really not that dark!

Iv'e had my bikini done and I'm really happy with it. I still want a couple more sessions but at the mo I only have to shave once a week and the hair that does come in is just like baby fluff hair. I wanted my underarms done but I have a birthmark under there and the nurse said the skins too dark. I'm gona get mt top lip done too! I'd definately reccomend it, it hurts like hell but its worth it in the long term.

I plan on getting my under arms, upper lip and butt crack done in the next few years. probably after I have all my babies and get my BA. I'd get my whole pussy done but my hubby likes some hair down there sometimes and he's payin for it so I can't complain

I have gotten my lower legs and bikini done 2x. I am happy with the results all things considered, b/c they tell you up front you must get it done at least 3x to remove all the hair. I know I would need to go in more than one more time to completely remove it. It I could do it over again I would get one of the packages where you pay a flat price and they laser you until it is all gone.

I got the package of multiple sessions for my lip and am very happy with the results, the hair is completely gone. It is horribly expensive though, I only got it because I won it in a draw at the gym, but after seeing the results I am going to try to save for the bikini. Worth it in my book.

Awesome feedback! Thank you all. I wasn't aware that there were any options other than "pay for each individual session" so that gives me something to look out for.

And for the first time in my life I'm actually happy to be pale pale pale with dark dark body hair!

The place I go usually gives discounts at certain times of the year, ie. January when not many people have the cash to pay for stuff like laser treatment. I paid for mine in a block of six treatments last January. Paying for 6 in a block is cheaper than payin for one at a time and because it was Jan I got the whole lot half price! Keep a look out for places with deals like these. Also, make sure the place you go has qualified nurses working. All the girls that work my salon are qualified nurses but its not the same case everywhere you go and I'm not sure how happy I'd be at letting some unqualified beauty therapist near my foofy with a laser!

I got it done once on my underarms last month and there is no hair right now and I'm going to get it done again there next month. I started to get my bikini done but it was so painful for me, that I had to stop after like 5 seconds of it. I also have thick, coarse, curly pubic hair though so it would be more painful for me than someone else.

^Painful but much more successful according to what I've read...it works best on coarse dark hair. I found a derm clinic near me and I'm gonna call for a consultation, see what to expect costwise. I think I'll get my underarms done first and if it's pretty successful, get my kitty done too. For legs, I'm more concerned--for one thing, it's really expensive especially considering I'm ALL leg, and then I would think leg hair grows back faster than any other area so would it actually be "permanent"?

But I figure, right now I'm spending $170 a month in waxing--it really would make me happy to quit shelling out monthly on hair removal!

The first time I did it it hurt like a mofo so I took a vicodin before hand and it felt much less painful.

i would totally do it if i knew for sure the pain wouldn't be that bad. i'm a pretty good candidate, i think, coarse dark hair with pale skin. But the idea of pain scares me away. And i would probably have to let it grow before it could be lasered off and that means time taken off work.

pinkkitten, those are my concerns too--except that I get waxed which I expect is just about the same level of pain, and I have to take off work for a week when I'm in that awkward "stubbly but not quite long enough to wax" zone. So really the only difference I'm hoping for is the duration/permanence of hairlessness.

I was going to get this done before I started having my family problems, and now its Christmas...so it keeps getting pushed back but I AM getting it.

I want my under arm and entire pubic area/ass crack done. I'm all legs too and would like to get those done as well but I have BLOND aka invisible hair there so theres no piont. I never shave them anyways except for work so meh.

If your spending that much on waxing you should do this instead!

One of my friends had her upper lip and her entire pubic area done (lips, but not crack). She said it hurt, but it was worth it. I don't see any hair on her upper lip at all. Didn't check the rest, but apparently it grew back really unevenly in the pubic area after the first time. She brought home the price list. I so want my happy trail and crack zapped and the pubes tidied up.

Sunday, do me a favor and let me know the general ballpark price they throw at you...

...Since we're both in Texas, I figure I can expect the same expense.

Will do. Ooooh I'm research Sunday now! *puts on detective hat*

Only thing is that so far, I'm seeing that the majority of already-lasered girls are less than happy with the results. That's cause for pause.

Okay I asked her again about it-apparently it did take a few times, but now it hasn't grown back since October. And she got her underarms done too. You have to stick with it.

I love laser! I did brazilian bikini and the results were great. I'm doing my arms now and they are more resistant because the hair is not the same and is finer and lighter, but still get results. I think it's some of the best money I've spent.

I have to say that I think the pain is pretty bad. I've nevere been waxed but i'd think it was slightly more painful than waxing but the whole bikini area is lazered in less than 15 mins so eventhough its painful, its over before you know it.

I have had my entire bikini (like XXXX all off) and asshole done with laser. I am not done with it I have 2 treatments to go but already there isn't much regrowth and what does grow back takes ages to grow back and it is really patchy with some areas already not growing back at all.

I had the ELOS laser done with combines heat and light.

I found it quite painful. The lady who does mine puts an ice pack on the area first to numb it - helps a lot coz i had my first treatment at another place that didn't do this and it does numb it a lot. Some spots hurt more (as with waxing).

I have had my brazilian bikini and underarms done, but only 4 treatments. I probably need 2 more to be finished. I am happy with the results! I am much less hairy than I was before, I have to shave way less often, and the hairs that do remain are very light. Also, I loved how after a treatment the hair didn't start growing back for a couple weeks!

Soon I am going to finish treatments and start my lower legs.

I've done laser hair removal on my legs, bikini and underarms. I love it....just be consistent with your treatments and it will pay off.

I had it done when I lived in San Antonio at a place called Smooth Solutions.

OK...so I signed up today for a full package for legs, brazilian, and underarms. From their website, American Laser Centers offers the best energy-based laser hair removal treatments available, combining effective laser hair removal technology with versatile and safe radio-frequency (RF) therapy. I don't know how much less painful and more effective it really is than other laser techniques. My consultant was SSing me all the way through.

However (and this was what primarily sold me), every session past the first six is free for two years. So if I need touch-ups, I can go back in and get them, no charge. Granted, I'll probably need more touch-ups after two years, especially if I get pregnant, but that's still a great deal I think.

And I'm getting all of this for $3500. Again, I think that's more than fair. It's just $100 per month more than I'm paying right now for waxing, and I'm to the point where I don't want to be "renting" my hair removal, I want to "buy" it. My first session is this Monday and I will be sure to post testimonials one way or the other!
