    Default Cracking your back

I cracked my back today and it is SO GOOD. Is it ok as long as you use firm but gentle pressure? Or will it mess you up? I've heard if you crack your knuckles it gives you arthritis.

I did this after I went to a chiropracter and he literally pulled my leg. Just one leg, not both. In order to relieve the tension in my lower back. (Its not from wearing high heels- my back hurts from exercise too. Even walking.) He talked for the rest of the hour. I appreciate the education, but I'm not going back there to pay $85 so he can pull only one leg again.

Does anybody do anything special other than stretching for their back?

I'm going to the spine center soon, so I'll let you know how mine turns out. But my back seldomly cracks, and it doesn't change anything.

My colleauge is always trying to crack it, but mostly as a chance for me to press my boobers against him.

I have cracked my neck, back, hands, feet, whatever will crack, for years. I don't have arthritis. If I recall correctly, I even had a doctor tell me to crack my neck if it's stiff.

man, all I have to do is twist to the side in an attempt to stretch and you can totally hear my vertebrae pop-pop-pop all the way up. I don't crack my neck though, not on purpose anyhow.

I think the arthritic claim is unfounded. HOWEVER, for some reason I was researching back cracking on the web several weeks ago and came across some articles that claimed that people under the regular care of a chiropractor where their neck was cracked were at a higher risk of stroke. I don't remember all the details because I'm not a neck cracker but I thought I would toss that out there.

I once continued dated a woman for weeks longer than than I should have mostly because she was able to crack my middle back. It's fairly easy to teach someone how to crack the lower/middle back, by the way.

It is untrue that cracking knuckles causes arthritis.

^^^It's okay, I'd rather her have the facts than run around giving other people false information. Besides, when I told her, she was like, "So what?" LOL still cracking her knuckles!!

I crawl across my bf's back. Been doing that for years, my dad taught me it when I was (A LOT) smaller. Feels great. My guy can't crawl across me since I am a smaller person, but he applies pressure evenly to the center of my back and slowly goes down and it cracks it perfectly.
I even crack some of the girls backs at work. Feels great and I go VERY slowly if I am not used to their backs yet.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

You do need to be careful about how you pop your back. I used to do it all the time via the twisting method (pretty much once a day), only to learn the hard way that it is not healthy...puts too much strain on your back and abdominal muscles, and can actually cause back pain to get worse!

Definitely don't force the pop. If things are too tight, try a hot bath or damp heating pad for a few minutes then attempt to do the adjustment. I was shocked find out that my chronic lower back pain was actually as a result of abdominal and hip muscles being out of whack...perhaps unrelated to the question at hand, but interesting nonetheless. My massage therapist taught me some very specific stretches that really target that lower back area, and I rarely have to pop now.
Stripping was my Mr. Big....the best bad relationship I ever had.
