This might be a stupid question, but....
How do you do spinning tricks? Is it the pole that spins you (the rotator kind) or do you do it yourself?

There are spinning poles, but I've never worked in a club that had them. You are spinning yourself using centrifugal force. Sometimes it's by swinging a leg around or starting a trick by walking around the pole to give you that initial momentum. There are some experts on this site...hopefully they'll see your post and give you a better answer.
You spin yourself. Some poles are fixed and some can rotate, but it's not like you just grab hold and it spins you around. With the rotating poles, it just helps you to keep spinning once you apply force.

Spins are different from tricks, leave tricks alone for now until you get some spins under your belt
Anyway, for any basic spin: Inside hand highest, other hand across ribs/chest (depending on strength), pivot on inside foot while swinging high and wide with outside leg. Flow around into spin rather than jump at the pole. Wrap both legs around pole. Then once you are used to this, experiment with leg positions.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reference ladies!
spins are definitely the first to learn...leave the tricks till the body strengthens.
For poles...PS is my preferred one...Sassysummer sells them on here..so does Starrgrl, as well as myself in Canada.
or you can visit the site directly at www.platinumstages.com
these poles come with a spin option...learn the static first.

I like PS too!
I keep it stationary most of the time now since the spin factor has worn off. Plus I have really high ceilings and can't tighten it on my own - when I use the spin option, it loosens faster and I can't have that.
Hi not an expert, but can tell you that spinning poles are really hard!!! LOL have found that out first hand, when i put quite a lot of momentum into a spin and wasn't actually really sure where i would stop if indeed ever. The static pole spins are easier to control but you need to have faith and just go for it otherwise you will probably not have enough momentum and end up on your butt. Yep happens a few times a lesson to me and it doesn't look very sexy either hehe. Oh and expect some lovely chaffing
