I take Cymbalta 120mg p/day, for ptsd....I think it works to some extent but I feel like considering the dosage, it should be doing better things for me than it actually is! To the other two girls on Cymbalta: do you feel like you can see the difference?

Gotta say thumbs up to ya too Gingerlee - I have a friend who is schizophrenic and for him at least, he finds it so hard to deal with. It's great that you're doing good and living life so well for yourself girl!

I've recently been taken off all meds but klonopin.

As soon as they get all the lupus nonsense worked out, I imagine the list will increase again...

    Adderol.
Recently given Flexeril, but havn't been taking it.
Allegra during cedar fever, so around right now.

I've been on lots of meds and do not want to be on them anymore. The only thing Seroquel was good for was going to bed at night. I can get the same effect from Benydryl.

I love my adderol though, helps me be able to spend more than 5 minutes focusing on one thing versus another. I could probably function without it though...

I started taking anti depressants when I was 6 when they diagnosed me with OCD. Yes it did make me have a weird sex drive as a teenager, they actually caused me to be late in all of that.

Er- it's 20mg prozac, which is pretty much the lowest dose people take. I say mild because I consider it mild...I dont have any side effects from it. It just makes me more myself, doesn't alter me (except in the less-depressed way), whereas other meds I've tried actualy altered my personality, or fucked me up physically.

Paige- I dont think it altered my sex drive at all...I was a horny teen, am a horny non-teen now, and have never had orgasm problems. SO I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess. In fact, I disinctly remember orgasms being less satisfying when I was temporarily off the meds when I was around 20.

I started taking stuff as an early teen, like 13-14, and honestly I have no idea whether or not it did anything either way since I don't remember ever being any other way. I did start taking Adderall when I was 10 and I stopped growing soon after that.

He said the only side effect I would notice would be feeling very sleepy (which is fine).

As for the point of the thread yes I take an SSRI called Luvox for anxiety problems. I have been on several different SSRI's since I was 14 and I am now 28.

I don't care whatsoever how it effects my hustle, I take them so that I can live a normal life and function.

QFT. I wish I didn't need pharmaceuticals to prevent me from offing myself. I wish I used them to hustle.

It would be really nice to be me without the chemicals, but I fall so far so fast whenever I try to be without them. I think this is due in no small part to having started these drugs themselves. It has been shown in many studies that taking an antidepressant heightens your chance for further and worse episodes of depression. I think I am dependent on these drugs for my very life. It's pretty sad actually.

    ^^^
i dont even know who i amwithout meds. I started taking them when I was 14 and have been on them ever since with a few short breaks.

i wish i never was introduced to them. i feel that it's sometihng that I will never be able to function without now but if i had never been introduced to them who knows? I was only 14 at the time so I took what the doctor said.

When I studied psychology one of my lecturers likened taking anti depressants to turning off a smoke alarm because the noise is annoying you - doesn't help stop the house from burning down tho. He was basically saying that we are feeling a certain way for a reason and by taking the anti depressants we are just turning off thealarm as such and never getting behind what the reason for us feeling the way we do is.

I see some truth to this. I also do believe a lot of anxiety and depression can be chemical and thus difficult to treat with therapy. But all I know is i cannot stand the way I feel when I have panic attacks, anxiety and depression. All I want to do is get rid of the feeling so I turn to the medication.

Sometimes my medication makes me feel as tho I am just going thru the motions in life but not really living it.

I started taking an SSRI very late in life. Over the years my anxiety level just kept increasing. By the time I started taking the drug I was having problems with tachycardia due to anxiety, and no amount of mental relaxation technique was working. I honestly don't think in my case that there is some underlying psychological cause to be sorted out, but rather it's just an aspect of my bodies chemistry has changed (i.e., no different then if I had developed problems with too much/little insulin, thyroid, or any other chemical my body produces). I keep hoping one day tests for seretonin and other brain chemistry levels are developed so that there is less guess work involved in perscribing these brain chemistry altering drugs.

Took prozac for a while in 2000-2001. Needed it to get me through one of those rough patches in life. It evened out my moods and negatively affected sex drive. I wasn't horny on it - just didn't care for sex - and I did NOT like that. It did make me feel a lot better - I was able to wake up refreshed and ready to go in the morning, when it had been a struggle to get out of bed. It took almost a month to start working. It helped, and mellowed me out a bit.

When the problems I was going through ended, it was like a dark cloud lifted and I knew immediately that I didn't need the prozac any more, so I stopped taking it. The doctor yelled at me for that - you're supposed to taper off, not quit suddenly, but I didn't have any problems - and I was really glad to get my mojo back.

Cupcake, are you switching from Lexapro because it is not working for you? I think I'm beginning to suffer from agoraphobia myself. What are they gonna put you on?

I've been taking Lexapro for over a month, 20mgs. It isn't working, and I wish it was. I am finally going to a psychiatrist so hopefully I can get a medicine that helps me to feel better.

I have been on Prozac and Paxil in the past.

Does unisom count? I take a half one every other night to sleep. Other than that, I hope I never have to rely on pills.. I already hate the fact that I need medicine to sleep and know I could probably use some anti-anxiety/depression meds, but no way am I getting hooked on that shit.

Yea I'm switching cuz it's no longer working, I've been on Lexapro for a year and a half. I started on 10mg, and bumped up to 20mgs, which worked for a while but I'm just really not satisfied with it. My panic attacks are increasing day by day, and lately I've been having really strange thoughts, like mostly about...well suicide. No worries though I have a good support system. I just feel like I may have a break down...I dunno anyhoo I'm not sure what I'll be switching to. But anything is better than this shit. Any recommendations? Hows the Prozac and paxil working PleasureVictim?

I'm on Effexor- antidepressant. I started anti-depressants when I was 14. I'm pretty sure it did mess with my sex drive because the time that I was off antidepressants 16-18 my sex drive went through the roof and that was the first time I got interested in dating. Now on antidepressants my sex drive is low. By the way I think birthcontrol pills mess with sex drive too because of all the hormones and they reduce testosterone which is important for the sex drive.

Cupcake, paxil didn't work for me and I wasn't on Prozac long enough because I got pregnant.

I was hoping Lex would be my miracle drug becuase my ex told me he could see it working, I was no longer confined to my bed. But it isn't any longer. I went from 10mgs to 20mgs and nothing.

I'm in such bad shape I was gonna see if I can increase the dosage until I get to a doc. Anyone on 30 or 40 mgs?

My doctor just started me on Celexa about 6-8 weeks ago. I have a deep family history of mental problems and I thought it had skipped me, but at 40 it finally hit. I never feel depressed or anxious in the classic sense, but about 3 months ago I started getting short of breath, and then developed these flu-like symptoms with a loss of appetite and basically an "I feel like shit and don't feel like doing anything but lay around" feeling. I'd also get cold sweats with even the mildest exertion, like walking a block or two down the street. I had other symptoms as well. It was weird, and the feeling(s) sucked. The Celexa seems to control these things.

Anyway though, I wanted to pop in here and say that I am on lexapro and have been for about 3 months. My doc just increased the dose to 20 mg and told me that we could even go up to 30 mg if I needed. I hope that helps or that you find something that will help you. Hang in there lady.

Paxil - a total of 37mg but I take 25mg one day and 12mg the next. There is no middle ground. Ick.

I also take levothyroxine for hypothyroidism, since we're mentioning other medications.

I'm not surprised to hear a lot of people are on anti-depressants on this site - tons of people are on them. That doesn't say anything about strippers to me, personally but some people might say otherwise.

Thank you Star Gazer, I will try the 30mgs since I have a refill left then see if it works.
