    Default brokeback me

Goddamn this damned horse. He is going to kill me.

I had a pretty bad fall on Wedsnesday night...had to go the hospital. I still can't hardly walk or get up/ down. They did xrays and stuff, but it's only pulled ligaments in my back. Really hurts though. Very mobility-reducing.

For the record, I'm really not that shit of a rider...It's just this horse missed his calling as a saddle-bronc. I've never had a horse buck so well. I managed to yank him in a circle, which everyone says keeps a horse from bucking...but he just managed to buck in a spin like a bull. Man, I'm almost proud.

Anyways. I need to be working right now! I'm so frustrated. My problem is the pain, and that for some reason these days, every painkiller/ anti-inflam drug I take makes me puke. Even just Advil. This is a new thing...

So I've been rubbing arnica on the spot and icing it...Are there any holistic cures I could look into? Is there anyway I can get back to work sooner? This sucks. Would a massage help? The doctor just said 'expect to be sore for a week...then you get back on your horsey, okay?'. He was one of those rural hospital old timey doctors. I dunno. I might be grasping at straws here, but anything that could help me get moving around again sooner would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch.

    Epsom salt baths

    Stretching

    Heating Pads

    Acupuncture

You'll be on your feet in no time.

Acupuncture works WONDERS for this stuff. Trust me I used to train off track race horses... as you know lol.

FTR being drunk and typing no typos is harder then I thought lol.

Be careful and take your time with this bastard. I've been following the saga of Grey on your blog and I'm scared! So please be careful.

Yes, I will be careful. I can't pay for the horse unless I can work, so I should try my best to not keep getting busted up. He's just too fresh right now.

Thanks for those tips Cally...I'll look around for an acupunturist nearby.

FTR Molly you should get a 'grass rein' or 'bucking strap' for this guy. It runs from his bit, over top of his head and down to the front of the saddle to hold his head up. It will make the degree of his bucks a lot less. Its not a perm fix, but its something for now until you can install a brain in this guy.

Also do lots of lunging with him with side reins and weight on his back. Also if your working on dressage moves with him try training him for them from the ground with weight on his back and pressure from his side using a dressage whip.

I'll try and find some links... i've had to deal with something like this before.

^^Oh, it's alright. He's getting pro training as of January. I'll be more self-preserving in future. I think it takes one good crack on the back to teach me I wasn't built for bronc-riding. I should have known better.

And thanks Cally, I was actually thinking about getting some of those bucking reins. I remember I used to have them for my crazy pony back in the day. I was much tougher as a ten year old I think. And I do lunge him, but I could definitely do more of that. I could also not be lazy, and actually use side reins. All in all very good advice...I forgot what a pro you are! I still have my sane horse too, so if they ever book you in my neck of the woods, we can go on a trail ride.

I accidently fell at my own halloween party did the splits unintenionally and tore my hamstring. I heard a "pop" and pure agony. They told me no work for 8 weeks, I was like "yea right" I have bills to pay.I sure paid the price. You need to rest. Listen to your body.

My Dr told me. Ice Ice Ice and 4 Motrins 3xs a day . To different body parts I know but pulled a muscle like me. I still cant wear heels yet.

I love horses. Hope you get well soon.

hows his personality otherwise, how old is he, is he just going through a stage? my horse went through this thing after she had a baby, where i couldn't ride her without the tie-down thing, cause she kept freaking out. it took me like 3 month to cure her of that, but i still have a huge lump on my leg from her mood swing
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

    Oh! Other strippers who ride!

Sounds like your horse needs a come-to-jesus meeting with a cowboy lol, glad you've got one scheduled in Jan. I myself just decided that I dont bounce like I used to, and that I'll stick to the more sedated guys from here on out. My last adventure was a 13h pony that was a direct descendant from Lucifer himself- needless to say that one went back where he came from. Now I'm saving up to buy a solid citizen.

Thanks ladies! All these stripper-riders. It's great. My guy isn't a monster. He's really very sweet, and he lunges really obediently. And when he's not bucking, he's quite nice under saddle. He's just green, and he had a rough start...so he gets too fresh sometimes. The thing is, he's too skinny (previous owners starved the poor guy), so sometimes he gets too much grain...although he needs to bulk up, he gets too hot with too many oats. So that's the predicament. I'm certainly putting my foot down now...bulk him up with beet pulp, second-cut hay, and alfalfa cubes. No more goddamn sweet feed, or I'll be in the rafters!

My back is improved. I should be able to go back to work boxing day, thank god.

I would cut the sweet feed for sure. Also alfalfa cubes and beet pulp are high in sugar as well. There is a feed called pacer that I used to feed my mare that was great for keeping weight on. If she even so much as looked at sweet feed or oats or alfalfa she would be in the rafters. Though I had this mare so damn fit for cross country that our warm up was me jumping on her back, straight into two point and letting her hand gallop for 10 minutes before bringing her back into a trot to work on roundness and collection lol.

This guy sounds fun!!! I might have to make a trip to Ottawa now! LoL

Heh. I'm all interested in the horse too.

I agree with Cally about the accupuncture, for this. Also cramp bark to keep the muscles around it from cramping and causing things to heal unevenly.
