Default being a teen in the 90's

omg i was watching a gret vh1 special 100 greatest of the 90's. I was a teen in the 90's and i rembered all of the song and had a blast watching it but i forgot how dam depressed we all were back then all the music is so down. We wore dirty flannel shirts with long strangaly hair and moped around complaining about things we knew nothing about lol. Now that i am 27 I find funny the things we thought for so imortant and depressing when we were teens we had no clue. I would love to have the chance to be a teen agine and this time i would do alot less complaining nothing is realy that bad at age 15. You can use this thread to talk about all things realed to being a teen in the 90's have fun

They keep playing that over and over!! But it is cool to see things you forgot all about. I too am 27. I think they have a "we love the 80's" thing too. I just remember the snap bracelets, etc from then.

And ditto on the depressing shit. Um... I had probably the most depression-inspiring melodramatic lyrics to my "favorite" songs written out on computer paper and hung from my window sills all around my bedroom.

I also wrote NIN all over the brown paper covers of my school books in high school. My mom's like, "what's nin? Heh. I'm smirking as "I want to fuck you like an Aaaaaaanimal is playing in my head.

I did this EXACT thing! And my mom would ask me the same question!

I'm sooo glad to have been a teen during all the flannelly grunge times...when it was actually cool to look dumpy and tomboyish.

I watched the 80's the other day! The ladies all looked so pretty in those videos.

What i found funny, and damn if they didn't play it.

Whitesnake! "Here i Go Again"...the vid. makes no sense to the lyrics. But it was still hot to watch after all this time.

The '90s were awesome. I graduated high school in '92 and then went on to college with all the great music that was coming out at that time. It was a good time to be a teenager. I couldn't handle it in this decade.

God what depressing music. Seriously. Was it just a backlash to 80s happy music? Was it end of the century apocalyptic stuff?

I remember being a freshman and coming downstairs in the morning to go to school and I was wearing old brown slacks, doc martens and a flannel. My hair was a wreck - super long and parts dyed purple, I looked super depressed from staying up late listening to Pearl Jam and my dad looked at me and was like, "you look like a hobo".

Luckily I moved on from grunge after a year. I don't think it was a very great decade.

Hahaha, I loved the 90's. I was so upset...devastated...that my parents wouldn't buy me Doc Martens. I wore all flannel, in many colors. And purple lipstick. Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Cranberries, and somewhere in there Salt N Pepa got mixed in. I <3 the 90s.

yeah I was all about the cords and nirvana tshirts. I had so many band tshirts....nirvana, nin, stp, pumpkins. I tried so hard to rock the flannel, but I always felt stupid in it, so I stuck to the tshirts. I really didn't fit in at all with my hs .....they were all into abercrombie and I was buying vintage-looking jeans from salvation army! I'm so glad I grew up in the 90's ...I never would make it if I were a teenager now.

Wait, were you watching I Love The 90s or that Best 100 Songs of the 90s? Cuz the music one is the one I was talking about. The other show is good, too, but they're all re-runs. They've been showing that for a few years.

    That's how our grandparents talk!

I'm 28, so I was a teen in the 90's too. You're right about a lot of the music being depressing. A lot of people I know wore flannel shirts, had long stringy hair, and went for the "I didn't try too hard" look. I listened to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, etc. and I loved watching "My So-Called Life" on TV. It was a lot more realistic to me than most TV shows geared towards teens.

I graduated from highschool in '94. I used to dress kinda like Blossom and her buddy. A different look for each day and lots of funky hats, Doc Martens and other shoes.

I lived in a college town so me and my girlies would sneak out to college parties or to a neighboring city to hang with badboys.

OK, remember when people wore their clothes backwards? And Cross Colors?? haha!

I liked being a teen in the 90s. I wouldn't mind being a teen now either. Being a teenager was easy. It was all about acting.

Music: I liked a little bit of everything but I LOVED BigDaddyKane, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, BDP and LLCoolJ.

Dude. The 1990's were an AWESOME time to be a teenager. You didn't have to dress up (but if you wanted to, you could); the music was original and heartfelt; the economy was good so you probably weren't too poor. And it was a time when we were watching people less than ten years our senior retire as billionaires simply for harnessing new technology. We were told that you could be wildly successful doing anything - ANYTHING - as long as you really loved it.

Too bad the Bush years smacked us in the face as we entered our twenties, and we emerged from college into a much harsher, crueler world. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.

^ word. I dont know if it was Van-specific, but acid was also really big at the time...nobody (I knew) did meth or coke or whatever, it was all acid and mushrooms and having a fun time...I remember lots of sitting in the sunshine wearing wrap skirts with longjohns underneath and a band tshirt, waxing philosophic a la tripped-out 15-year-old. fun!
