Default using an out of state accountant

if any of you remember my post, i had a wonderful account who passed away this year. he worked in 2 different states. there is a very nice lady who worked with my former cpa for 20 years. she is very nice and would be able to file my return. however, she lives in a different state and it's a long drive or expensive flight to get to her. i do feel she knows quite a bit about the industry and since she worked with my cpa (did returns when his cancer acted up), she would do it correctly.

i have another guy i could use who is in state. i got his contact info from another dancer. now, i know people use him and he's supposed to be good, but i dont think he specializes in taxes for entertainers.

i am reluctant to have to do my return by mail, as i'm worried someone could get my personal information. do any of you girls do returns with out of state cpas? would it be better to work with someone else in state?

There has to be an in-state one to use who is familiar with your State taxes too. Keep looking around.

We use someone who's far, far away from where we are now and it's all fine. There should not be a problem with mailing your information; you can always use FedEx or other means if you want extra security. I would stick with the same office if you've been happy with them in the past.

It's fine using someone out-of-state. Lots of people do it. A relative of mine has done it for 25 years.
