    Safe and Healthy Cleanse?

Once K and I get to Portland and have unpacked our truck and everything, we want to commence a thorough cleanse to jump-start weight loss and get back to the healthy lifestyle thing. We were thinking we'd do the 48-hour Hollywood Juice Fast and then the 7-Day Brown Rice Cleansing Diet. On the brown rice thing, you take seven days to eat just brown rice, whole fresh vegetables, and whole fresh fruit. For condiments you can use olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and herbs; you can drink water, herbal tea, and diluted fresh-squeezed juice. After the seven days are up you gradually re-introduce different foods over a 25-day period.

Is that safe and healthy? We want to cleanse and we want to kick-start the weight loss thing, but we don't want to slow down our metabolisms or cause health problems. So what do y'all think?

The 48 hour Hollywood Juice Fast is complete crap.

If you cannot wfford a juicer or don't want to spend the time, a better choice is to go buy a bottle of BoltHouse Farms Green Goodness, and a bottle of BoltHousef arms Blueberry, and fast on those, drinkign an 8oz. glass several times per day, combined with a gallon of water per day.

The 7 day brown rice sounds good, but the hollywood juice is crap. You need the freshest juice possible, and that is just dead, prepackaged, crap. Here's the ingredient list:
Purified water, fructose, pineapple juice concentrate, orange juice concentrate, artificial flavors, apple juice concentrate, prune juice concentrate, white grape juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, xantham gum, potassium citrate, bilberry extract, green tea extract, gingko biloba extract, grapeseed extract, ascorbic acid.

the safest one IMO is a juice fast. Take advantage of portland's health food scene and either invest in a juicer and go to the farmer's market and get some yummy organic fruits and veggies, or go buy juice blends already made. I don't know if the farmer's market is even running anymore since it's so cold ( i left 21 days ago), but it's a great place to get fruits and veggies.

The brwn rice one sounds like a pretty healthy vegetarian diet. Add some beans and other grains after a week and you're good to go. I really don't see how that one could hurt.

Thanks, guys! That's what we'll do then, get a juicer and do a real fresh juice fast instead.

Or you could do a smoothie type fast consisting of blended fruits/veg. I've done that before. Not need to buy an expensive juicer as a blender works. And the fibre is good for you. I found this a lot more filling/bearable.

Have you ever heard of the master lemon cleanse? I think you're supposed to do it for 7 days...I did it for one and it started working fast but I had to go off it but I'm planning on trying it again sometime soon and doing the whole 7 days. It gets rid of all the toxins in your body and some people have gotton slightly sick on it because of all the toxins coming out (like a small cold).

Yeah, we looked into the Master Cleanse but it seems a bit too hardcore for us. We have a few friends who did it and were pretty torn up. And seven days living on salt water and lemon-pepper juice is too long. We're going to do two or three days of the juice fast and then the brown rice cleanse. The smoothies sound good too, but we bought a juicer today and I've been looking at recipes for different juices and stuff. I can't wait to try it!

    Here's my favorite smoothie recipe:

    1/2 frozen banana
    1/2 c. frozen strawberries
1/2 c. fat free organic milk
1/2 c. plain fat free yogurt
    1 scoop protien powder (optional)
1 tbsp. gound flax seeds (or oil) (optional)
    1 t. honey

Blend! I try to drink this for breakfast every morning. It taste wonderful, an it's full of good stuff. The recipe followed above is 340 calories, but you can leave out the honey or replace the milk or yogurt with ice to make it lowr cal. but it will not taste as good!

Aha. Good to know. I do screen for high-fructose corn syrup but I tend to overlook other sweeteners as long as it isn't too caloric.
