Who is Huey Newton?





A former Oakland Black Panther leader associated with the "Black Power Movement" of the 1960's (not to be confused with another Bay Area icon, Huey Lewis, who wrote "The Power of Love")...
You might recognise this photo. He is the one on the right.
Spike Lee also made a movie about him.

I was just wondering because when I first heard of him, I though of Huey Lewis.I was kind half awake and I thought to myself,"The guy that sings 'I Want a New Drug'" is a black panther? WTFI was just curious if anyone head heard of him.
Learned about him in my 20th century history class.





His buddy Bobby Seale was tried in 1970 in the for the murder of ; his trial resulted in a . The New Haven trials were widely decried as an example of by such relative moderates as president , and were accompanied by a large demonstration in , on , , which coincided with the beginning of the American college student strike of May, 1970.
That's a little bit of trivia I knew growing up.
