Angry Work is messing up my sleep pattern

Have been working loads recently over christmas and once again my sleep pattern is all over the place. For a while there I was only working 2 shifts a a week but now I've boosted it up to 4 my sleep pattern is non existant. I've always been a troubled sleeper and now and again I take a mild sleeping tablet to help but I don't like to rely on them. The more I work, the less I seem to sleep. I do all the stuff they advise, take a hot bath, don't watch tv in bed, read ect. ect but none of it really works that effectively for me. Even when i stay up till 7am so I'm dog tired I'm usually up and wide awake by 1. (I know thats quite late but its only 6hrs and when I'm working 4 shifts in a row of 8-10 hrs I really need more.) I'm off tonight and have been shattered all day and really looking forward to an early night so was in bed by 10.30 shattered. I dozed for about a half hour then woke up for no reason, full of energy. I lay there for an hour waiting for sleep to come but had no joy so am back up again. Its like my body is tired but my head is like, "No don't sleep, dance dance, its only midnight, we've got 4 more hours of dancing to go." Will probs be up now for the next few hours, Argh! So annoyed

I was just about to post this myself. Like you I've always had sleep problems (staying asleep) and recently with work my sleep has gotten REAL f-ed up. I can not sleep past 8am no matter what, so I don't know what to do.

Sorry I can't help since I'm dealing with the same thing. I'll try to do some searching and see if I can drag up some old advice.

i've been having the same problem, i don't know if this will help but i have a couple of suggestions. i guess it depends on the night but sometimes if i can't sleep cuz i keep thinking about things, whether it's what's just been happening at work or stresses, i find if i write down all my thoughts it clears my head. i also used to use a relaxing cd - the sounds of ocean or forest don't really work on me, but the type where a person is telling you to relax your toes, then legs and so on seems to work on me... sometimes i needed to play it a couple of times to work. is your room dark enough? if i have the shutter down it's pitch black in the day and i sleep so much better... like my body thinks it's night time. another one is lavender oil on your temples/pillow and camomile tea or hot milk, but i don't think they work that well. i hope this helps.

I have a sleeping mask as I really cannot sleep if its bright in the room. I also have ear plugs on standby in case the nighbours start gettin noisy. I kinda like the idea f using a cd, haven't tried that one yet. Can you let me knoe were I can get one? Pm me if ya like.

I have just started to get bk to a normal sleeping pattern. I had to stay awake a verry long time so I would be tired. That night I knew I would crash and wake up in just a few hours, so I took 2 malatonin. Now I force myself to get up after 7 hours of sleep , no matter if I am tired. I don't have any caffeine or stimulants a few hours before bed and no matter how tired I am I still take 1-2 malatonin pills, they don't make me feel groggy in the morning and actually keep me sleeping whereas otherwise i would be waking up every 3-4 hours. I don't take naps either, that will probably mess me all up again. As far as thinking too much, I have not found a way to overcome that but, luckily it only happens like once a month. Let me know when you find a cure for that.
