I wish I could go to the Mummers parade today in PhiladelphiaI guess I'll just watch it on cable today.
Anyone else watching, attending, or ever attended the parade?
Next year I'm going to make sure I'm there with my family.

Living in Germany I haven't got a clue what the Mummers Parade is: clues? links?

Thanks! Looks wonderful. Perhaps next year ...
Been there but sort of over-rated. Way too many drunk people acting like total fools.

Sounds like south east Florida.Sorry had to throw a dig about Florida in there.

When I worked at Deliahs several years ago I remember the Mummers actually came and did a little show. It was kinda neat.
I think for myself I'm just a sucker for any parade.....especially around the holidays. I'd still like to see the Macys Day parade some day soon too.
I used to go the mummers every year when i was a kid...now I just watch on tv
I was there earlier today!Overall it was fun, but the weather was a little too cold for my liking. My friends and I didn't have the best views, because we were standing far to the left of the spot where the Mummers fancy brigades would stop to do their performance. Later when I got home, the parade was still on TV, and the TV cameras showed much better angles and views than I saw live.
I still think it's a great experience to see them live...so much history and Philly traditions with that parade. But I think it's best to see the parade during midday, when it's sunny and not as cold, and then perhaps watch the last part of the parade(i.e., the Fancy Brigades, which are groups that perform themed song and dance routines in front of props and fancy backdrops) on TV in the warmth of your house or somewhere.
LOL when I was at the parade today, a cute guy in a geoff hat(I love when guys wear geoff hats! My deceased ex wore them all the time back in the day) hit on me. We hung out for a bit, I got free booze from him, and we exchanged numbers. Hahaha. The year has just begun, and I'm already acting like a whore, considering that my ex/baby's daddy is still staying with me in Philly for a few more days.(he didn't go to the parade because he thinks the Mummers are "gay," so I left him home)
Boo...they cut off the string bands on the channel here.
Every year we used to go to a family friends house who lived right on Broad st....on the parade route. I got pulled into the parade several years to strut with the clowns!
I can still do a fairly good mummers strut!

there was a clown-guy all made up driving a car when i was out on NYE day, and it was fairly freaky. i knew he was a mummer but man oh man, totally a freaky sight. he looked pissed off too, but that might have been the makeup as opposed to the lack of parking spaces!
Love it!

Sort of like getting freaked out by the Easter Bunny as a kidit happend to me as a kid and my mom couldn't get me to stop crying. Or the Mall Santa. I can totally see getting freaked out by some of the Mummers......

That's awesome! Yes, my S/O tried to show me how to do the strut..... He was in the parade as a kid as well along with his family.
He said I did it all wrong and that I looked like I was having a seizure while simultaneously being held up.Whatever, I thought I did pretty well for a first timer.
