Thumbs down They're not calling me back...

Long story short, I put in an application at a place and they were supposed to call me back. My dad knows the managers so I put him as my job reference because he told me to and I had worked for his company before. I didn't put that I had ever stripped.
Well, they were supposed to call me Friday and never did I'm hoping it's because the holidays and all, but I also hope dancing didn't come up on my background check..although I think it was just a criminal check. The guy was like "Now we just have to make sure you're not a theif or haven't murdered anyone!".
So yeah. I hope it didn't come up because they all know my dad....lol. I also read on here that not putting dancing on an app/resume isn't considered LYING, so I just didn't put it down.

Probably the holidays, but a tactful call to the personnel department saying "did you receive my application OK?" wouldn't do any harm on Thursday (after they've cleared the big heap of post on the 2nd).

Background checks cost money, so they won't spend any more than they need too. Only reason they'd do anything more than a basic check is if the post you've applied for is a sensitive one, for example PA to a politician.

In which case you being an ex-dancer might just put a smile on the faces of his opponents if they found out.

As long as there's not an obvious gap in your work history. I'd be concerned if an applicant had (say) a 12 month gap without any explanation. If your CV looked OK, then I'd be more concerned how your past work history fitted in with the job.

However, expect most companies to ask for a reference from your last (or last 2) jobs.

Personally, I'd raise my eyebrows if I saw the reference came from an applicant's father. If you plan to use his company for a reference again, I'd ask him if one of his colleagues could give you a reference.

This is true, but not meaningfully so. Most companies, at least those in the U.S., maintain relationships with security companies that are contracted to perform background checks on potential employees. These contracts are defined in terms of effective periods rather than volume of effort, so there is no marginal increase in cost associated with an investigation of any given individual. So the “cost” of an investigation is no deterrent.

Many companies who work for federal and state government entities can have criminal background checks run on potential employees at absolutely zero cost to them. These are conducted by the government entity itself, and would only apply to contracts or activities associated with government contracts.

Based on what the potential employer actually said, though, they are just running a simple criminal background check. What this means is just that – a check of criminal records, wants and warrants and a check of the NCIC database, the National Crime Identification Center database run and maintained by the FBI. This is a simple way to check a lot of information easily.

BTW, working for a politician or any entity in the national security sector or any federal law-enforcement agency includes a background check about 1,000 times more invasive than a simple criminal background check. I don’t think the OP needs to be concerned about this level of investigation at all.

Well, they say to put previous jobs that have relevance to the position you want. If you being a dancer ever came up later you could say that....

Its probably the holiday lull... give em a call later this week.

I agree with giving the organisation a call. Apart from getting clarification for yourself, it will also make the employers think you really want the job and will make you come across enthusiastic.

I also think it is probably due to the holidays though and so many lost business days due to public holidays.
