Yeah, let's all refrain from that... Also Billie what did that response mean?

I didn't understand "6. Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers". What does this mean?

    Otherwise I had:
    9. Were read children's books by a parent (I think so, I learned to read so early I read myself to sleep by the earliest age I remember)
    25. You had your own room as a child (only age 13 and later)
    26. You had a phone in your room before you turned 18
    27. Participated in any higher level Year 11 or Year 12 course with a view to entering University
(what exactly do they mean by this? I took advanced placement courses which are geared towards college credit)
    28. Had your own TV in your room in High School
    30. Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16

and o5c's is just obligatory 5 characters, it wouldn't let me just quote/edit, it said I had to have 5 characters of message

well, now. thats a disapointment. two. i get two. i guess i can say i definalty wasnt brrought up any sort of privilaged life. i slept on the floor of the luonge room from ages 6-17, i lived with my grandparents, and worked all day saturdays (9-2) in their shop... i ended up getting a job after schools in a bookshop while i was still at primary school just for the benifate of free books. the only reason id been ona plane before 16 was due to my dad paying for me to go to aussie once as a kid to visit, and another time at 5 to go to disneyland, due to my mothers inhertiance.

interesting read. sorta feel a little ashamed reading it now, kids these days take many of those things for granted, and they are expected, i guess some things just arent a given for everyone

Don't feel ashamed, feel proud of yourself!

And I wouldn't say it's a "these days" thing really, I had six items which is six more than my father, but I know people whose parents had all of the items listed (except possibly the credit card which was so much less common in the past). Likewise I know people in my generation with many items from the list and ones with none.

twisterinAZ, above the original post there's a grey rectangular box that says "quote", click that, then just manually erase the ones that don't apply to you / edit them as you see fit and that should work

Thats why its so interesting. I wouldnt really think of myself of having a priviledged childhood in some senses of the word, but put like this it does put somethings into a different erspective.
Dont feel ashamed, you should be feeling proud!

I just selected the whole list with the mouse, copy pasted (right click to see the selection menu or just use control-c to copy and control-v to paste) into a new post and deleted what I didn't need.

Just highlight, copy and paste into a new box. Highlight again and click on the "B" icon to set them all the same and then off you go!

Do you have any info as to why they chose these particular questions and how they are measured?

The funny thing about my childhood is that it was very extreme. We had food stamps and my dad was in and out of mental institutions until I was about 6, and then my mom scored a sweet job and we were well-off for a while. Then she got with my ex stepdad and we were on the lower echelons of rich, but she became alcoholic, and then I ended up in Mexico, and then I was 16 and on my own, with a shitty job at Target trying to take care of both myself and my broke mom.

Yeeeeesh!! No wonder I crave stability.

I know it looks a little uneven-my immediate family-me, mom, little brother, were pretty poor. My grandparents were pretty wealthy, though my mom refused to take much from them, other than what involved just my brother and me. So we lived in the hood, worried about bills, got hand me down clothes, but my grandparents flew us out to visit in Las Vegas and sent us to a good school. It was a weird childhood.

And my mom 'married up' when we were teens, so she got her house.

Thats pretty much all that applies to me. My mom finally got her associates in nursing about when I was 15. We moved into a house when I was 16. The majority of my childhood we lived with my grandma or in a one bedroom apartment. I always knew about money or lack of when I was younger.

I'm just lucky dancing can provide me with a stable financial living situation. *breathes easy*

Number 9 makes me cry... I used to ALWAYS want to be read to. Always. My mum refused, saying I didn't deserve it and she didn't want to. I'd cry and beg and say, mum, please read to me! Even when I saw her last, she BRAGGED, "You used to cry and ask me to read to you when you were little and I never did! I was a good mum and made sure you read to yourself!"

And now one of the few things to help me relax is to have someone read to me.

It's all I ever wanted. She acts like it was this little tiny thing she never did and she's proud she never did it - even knowing I would cry and get upset.

And the only reason I had so many books was because I bought them myself...
'cause I knew nobody would effing read to me.
