For 2008 I'd like to keep a better record of my shifts, my earnings, my customers, etc.
What format do you use? Any helpful hints would be much appreciated.

I shared my spreadsheet format a while back... let me see if I can find it.
Here is the thread! It had lots of good advice

I have a little black book I got at walmart in the rubber band aisle. I write down the date, day of the week, shift, how much I made before tipout and fees, how much the fees were, how much the tip out was, and what I brought home.

If possible, i think using a spreadsheet is best. that way, you can create averages easily for days of the week (for ex: my avg for saturdays is higher than my avg for fridays)or for months of the year (my july avg was horrible, my november avg was the best of the year!).
You can also push a button and find out how much money you made all year.
If you were using a notebook instead you would have to do all that stuff by hand and you would be unlikely to do so.

Do you have excel on your computer?
I could send you a copy of the structure of my spreadsheet and you could just fill it in.

sent!
I have it in a very easy to fill in format
if anyone else wants it just PM me your email!
I have generic excel which I created a spreadsheet on--it's easy to average out and it's all in one place.
^^ oh I want a copy!I tried to this a while back but haven't yet mastered excel!
I'll pm you in a minute!

Sent and sent to the other girl who wanted it but didn't post here
I'm wide open ladies!
I just print out calendars from microsoft works monthly and on one I write in the $ made before 10 and after 10 , and the total ( and the cost to work). This year I will be more detailed and I am also giving myself a monthly budget for expenses. I usually just buy my makeup, perfume, tanning supplies, costumes etc. as I need them. This year I will make an inventory and keep close track on my expenses and budget.
The SS AustinNatalie has is SUPER easy to work and I am in awe of how detailed it is. She's amazing - that is all.

aww thanks
I've sent out 10 copies so far... anyone else?

me please! I want to be more knowing of my income, and I want to see how others do theirs, I have no idea where to start
Email received and address moved
Thanks

I sent it to you, but you should edit your email addy out of your post!

I use MYOB anyway for the business side of everything so I have a handy ready-reference to see what is being spend where each day/month/financial year etc.
www.myob.com.au
Otherwise, day2day I buy a small "one day to a page" diary/planner. I write in it cost to work, hours worked, money earnt (in total), club worked within as well as a small comment about the night ("I made most of my money before 1am", etc)
For private parties I write down the details on that day (I can actually fit quite a bit in each day even tho' it's a small size!) as well as total earnt and commission to be paid.

Wow i feel so helpful! It feels nice.
I sent a copy to everyone who PMed me, but there were a couple of you who asked for it but didn't give me your email addy! I PMed yall back, so send me your email!
I write everything down in a yearly calendar, first I write in all the shifts that I "schedule" myself to work. It makes it more likely for me to go in. Then at the top I write the goal for the month and then each night when I get home I fill in: the amount I walked with, tip outs, stage fees, any regulars who came in and how much they spent, and any customer who stood out to me who I think might be in later - if I write down, "Joe - from Texas, mustache" then if he comes back I always remember his name and when he was in last - that's actually made me money before.
As I get behind or ahead of reaching my monthly goal I can adjust my schedule accordingly. Then at the end of each month I have another page where I write down, monthly income, days worked and average income for each day. I do it all by hand because I really enjoy it. I don't know, it's fun getting in bed with me calculator and figuring my averages and watching my totals grow.
I want to do a bit more though, especially figuring out if there is a shift I'm working that is a waste, like if I should stop working tuesdays to rest and work a double on wednesdays...stuff like that.
And I also REALLY need to keep track of stripper expenses. I'm bbbbaaadd at that. That's another issue though...
I'm confused, but the Chewbacca Truffle Shuffle cleared it up. - Emily

I would love a copy of your excel ss as well, austinatalie! I PM'd you![]()

I'm PMing you, austinnatalie!
I keep track of all of the important stuff in a day planner. I'm number savvy, but not very computer program savvy. I've had to use Excel in a couple of jobs I've had, and just barely got by.
At the very least, keep track of what you make and what days you work consistently and write it down in the same place. Buy a day planner just for that purpose. At least then you'll have something to work with when it comes to your 2008 taxes. It doesn't have to be amazing. I've done the notebook method for 2 years of dancing so far and it's worked fine. I think though that i'm ready to upgrade to an Excel version for 2008.

*whew*! I just caught up on all the spreadsheet requests. Check your inboxes!

I use Excel right now too, but everyone is saying such great things about austinatalie's spreadsheet I want a copy too. I am PMing you. I also use a self updating graph for a good visual.
