Default How do you hustle when there's no customers?

I'm honestly terrified to go to work tonight, and I know I need to. The last night I worked was Tuesday, and I was TERRIFIED I wouldn't even make my house fee and tipouts! ($35) In the end, I made house and walked out with $32 for a 7-hour shift.

Here's the problem: We had ten dancers and 18 customers. No kidding. I counted them. Of those customers, only one or two were buying dances. Problem is, this is happening ALL over town--not just in my regular club. Our dumbass legislators decided to put a new "sin tax" on strip clubs (and ONLY on strip clubs)--now our clubs are charged $5 a head on all customers. A lot of clubs have just rolled that onto the cover charge, but our club raised some food and drink prices (and raised cover slightly) to make it more palatable. But there is NOBODY in the club. I thought about working last night and went in around 7, and there were 7 dancers on-shift and about 15 customers (didn't have time to get an exact count). I was (once again) scared I wouldn't even make my house.

I honestly don't know what to do... I'm looking for another (a "real") job and have been for awhile, but that won't happen anytime soon, and I NEED to be making some money. I'd be happy walking out with $100 a night, but as it stands I'm lucky to get that.

I'm usually a good hustler, and I've NEVER had this sort of problem before. The clubs are just totally dead, and I don't know how to handle it. So how do you hustle when there's nobody there TO hustle?

tuesday, as in new years day? ok, so this week probably won't be great in all honesty. i'm usually the first to say not to say that, too. but people went out on new years. they arent going to want to go out that night.

you CANT hustle if there are no customers. but if you dont go, you won't know. and EVERYONE HAS BAD NIGHTS. it's not a big deal. hopefully you're having good nights that balance that out. there's nothing you can do about the fact that there aren't many customers. but all it takes is one.

hmmm.. what would i do?... i guess i would just work more often, or switch to a club that the earning is slightly more until the pace starts to pick up in the clubs.

Look at your weekly or monthly earnings as a whole. Don't get so stressed out about bad nights as long as your weekly/monthly numbers are where they should be. If your bills are 2k a month and you're making 3k a month, then one or two or ten bad nights shouldn't stress you out. It's a sales job - every night won't be on.

Learn a slow hustle and be more persistent when nights are slower - also, try focusing on tips - on a super slow night that might be half your income. Try to get tipped on every dance.

If your monthly numbers aren't where they should be, consider brushing up on your sales or pursuing a different club.

Remember that sometimes it can only take one customer to make your night. Maybe instead of going up to everyone and just getting a lapdance or two from guys, try focusing on one guy and try to make him get a champagne room or multiple dances.

This sounds so much like the club I was at for a year and a half. I completely understand your frustration!!! Here's some advice from my experience:

    1. Stay out of the dressing room as much as possible. You need to know who has sat with the very few customers and which customers are new and how long they have been sitting there. This may sound petty to other girls who have never worked a slow club, but i'm not kidding around.

    2. Be the first girl to approach. In most other club situations, I'd say to not be the first... but in my club when we had 35 girls and maybe 75 customers through the door in a night sometimes... you had to get in and get it done before someone else. They'll probably spend their money on either girl #1 or girl #2. It's a crapshoot. Why be #1? Because when the other girls see him spending money on girl #1, everyone and i mean EVERYONE wants to be girl #2 when she leaves him because "oh my god that guy over there is spending money!!!" He'll soon get over-hustled or just spent out and leave.

    3. Be very enthusiastic on stage. You need to stand out and have a great attitude. Be proactive about getting tipped on stage. Go up to everyone, make eye contact with everyone while you're up there. Do tricks. Be a goof if you need to. On nights like this, you can't make everyone tip, but at least you will have tried. (I used to make great tip money when I wasn't selling dances because I HAD to. Sometimes it was nearly the only money I'd get all night.)

    4. Mention VIP to everyone. Don't be a pest. Just ask everyone. The occasional VIP sale will really help your month out.

    5. Work more days. It will really get you in a nice groove, discipline you, and make your body look great. I used to work 5 days a week at my slow club.

    6. Have your own game. Don't wait until someone in the DR lets on about who has funny money or who is spending. YOU be the first to find him. By the time you hear about him in the DR and walk out to find him, he'll already have three girls sitting with him.

    7. Dont' be afraid to ask a guy a second time around. Or toward the end of the night... very politely... a third time. (Sometimes I got dances on the third try.)

    8. Are there any other options other than table/lap dances and VIP? I used to make great money dancing up on the bar and up on the tables for the same price as a lap dance. A lot of times other girls were scared to get up on the bar or the tables and never even offered that. I had a lot of takers. If a group of four younger guys came in, I'd tell them that for 5 bucks a head, they could get me naked up on the bar. They'd often be takers--so while I couldn't sell a dance to any one of the four individually, and after they all turned me down, I was able to still sell one dance to the group on the bar.

    9. Change your outfit it you aren't being well-received by the crowd. If there are that few guys and that few girls in the club, they'll want something fresh sometimes. (If it were a very busy club, I wouldn't suggest this.)

Hope some of this helps. I feel your pain! I've been there!

Great tips. One more thing that wasn't mentioned. We have pool tables at our club. If I sit with a customer on a dead night who I think has money but isn't giving it up easily, I'll ask him if he wants to play pool with me. I explain that I have to work until 2:30 either way and time goes by a lot faster if I have someone to keep me company. So long as they actually have money, they WILL buy a dance or tip you for your time after the game. I usually ask if he'd like a victory/consolation dance.

i agree with paint goddess. sometimes i say hello if the night is slow. and then come back over a second time later on to "see how he's doing" and of course sell him on the dance. they like when you come back over. makes them think they are important.
