    Default Laser hair removal machine

I think I'm going to buy a laser hair removal machine.

I can buy a pro model that is effective on my colouring (pale w/ dark hair) for under 5k. I'd like to do my whole body, and then a few selected friends who have similar colouring, for cheap.

When all is done and its certain that we are all hairless, I'll sell the machine, and will probably have broken even or made a small profit.

It is legal in Canada to provide laser hair removal without a license. I will test on myself first, and be very careful; I don't feel that there will be significant risk involved (though I will be sure to be damn careful, don't worry).

The company I'm buying from is local, and hods the money in escrow until I approve the release of the funds. They have no BBB complaints, and provide a 1 year warranty on the machine.

    Good idea? Caveats?

um, I will have a friend help me with my ass crack, if that's what you're asking...but I want to do everything (legs, pits, arms etc). Most of my body is pretty accessible without contortion.

Like, I'm picturing the first tests on my ankle or something.

Sounds like some new fetish to me. Girls zapping each other with lasers.

My doctor friend purchased one for his clinic, as an additional "service" offered, aka extra bucks (thank you Kat for that fantabulous business plan idea!)

Have you done laser before though? Although I don't think it would be too bad on the legs, it hurts like a mofo on the vagger. Especially as you get down lower and lower towards the promised land (aka, the anus).

I've talked to nurses doing my lasering who have done themselves. One did her taint I guess and said it hurt, but then it hurts when someone else does it.

I'd just be worried that since you aren't trained in lasering you could fuck it up. I know there are different settings and such. I have light skin/dark hair (perfect candidate) and I've had them adjust the levels and such when they do it. You can burn your skin if you get it wrong.

I do have to say that I've already probalby spent what you're going to spend and my whole body hasn't been done, so if you can do it correctly it would be cost effective.

Caveats? Just that the machine might be obselite (sp) by the time you are selling it. It will take a while, possibly a year, to laser yourself. I have coarse hair down under and many clinics have told me to expect 8 treatments.
Even if you lose some money on the maching b/c it has depreciated in value, this is still a damn good idea!
Laser is SO expensive here! If oyu don't have to be licensed, and anyone can buy a machine, laser must be a lot less in CA. Good news for those SWs who live near the border!

Omg I'm so excited I want it to get here, like, yesterday. I put the order through but I have to wait until busines hours tomorrow so I can get the money into escrow.

gonna fry my follicles 'til they dont work no more...

And I will be careful. Excruciatingly, ridiculously so. The only thig I want less than getting burned by a laser is to get sued by someone I burned with a laser.

Why not sign up for training classes while you're at it? Or hire someone who does it professionally to explain the caveats to you. Sure, she'll view you as competition and won't do it for free, but I'll bet you'll find a reasonable person if you look around.

It seems like a better way than straight experimenting, in case there are any non-obvious gotchas that could lead to damage. I'd think of things like freckles, moles, etc, as being likely trouble spots.

^ good idea on hiring a pro to show me a few things. I will be taking a weekend training course, but someone who's been doing it professionally for awhile could dfinitely tell me a few things I wouldn't learn in a class. Thanks!

Be really carefully with this. I've heard stories where doctors have stuffed up laser and given their patients permanent scaring or broken capillaries.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

I had this same idea regarding laser tat removal. i bought my laser machine (Q switch nd-yag) and barely used it, because it's really weak. In terms of power, a machine that would cost you $100K will remove hair in, say, 4-8 sessions, but a machine in your price range, $5K will take 20-30 sessions to do the same job. Just keep in mind that the whole process will take you at least 2 years, and you'll have to avoid sunlight all that time if you don't want to end up with possibly permanent discoloration on your skin
