A lot of issues aren't either/or to me, so simple "for/against" checks often don't give me the information that I want.
However, for a snapshot of the U.S. Presidential candidates' apparent views, you can go here:

Jay, what are these determinations based on ? Actual votes or stated policies or conjecture / speculation resulting from various snippets from each candidate's history ?
From this link it would appear that ...
Obama has an almost perfect record as a 'liberal' ... with the almost being the areas left blank by Obama's lack of voting history
Huckabee has a very wishy-washy record that doesn't appear to follow any particular political philosophy, but which can probably best be explained by populism (i.e. telling various groups exactly what they want to hear)
Hilary also has a wishy-washy record, although not leaning quite as far toward populism as Huckabee.
Fred Thompson's record probably comes closest to the political philosophy of a 'classic' republican, but there are a ton of blanks that need to be filled in.
Don't know, Mel. I disclaim all authentication. It was sent to me; I looked at it briefly, thought it might be useful to others; and threw it in here.
If it's useful to some, then good. If it's a bunch of hogwash, I apologize for giving it air time.

^^^ I wasn't intending any 'slam' over your link ... it would appear to contain fairly accurate information based on what I have gleaned from 100 different news stories and websites about the candidates. At the very least it puts up a side-by-side stand on the same issues for all the candidates, for purposes of quick comparison.
Perhaps most importantly, your posting of this link / table reminds us that there is more at stake to the upcoming election than the cults of personality which seem to have dominated the primaries and news coverage so far ! Thanks.
I would also interject that, based on the issue table, it's not immediately apparent what 'classical' political party philosophy really applies to McCain and/or Giuliani !
This is really interesting and very useful. Thank you very much for posting it!
