Yay!
If you are coming mainly for work you would probably be best to stay in the city as that is where all the main, good classy clubs and peeps are located. The King Street strip has all the main strip clubs and there are peepshows in the city such as the clubx ones and stuff located around this area also.
There are heaps of girls on here that probably know a lot more about this especially for travelling dancers. I know goldcoastgirl has come to Melbourne to work and I'm pretty sure she stays at the backpackers so maybe get some info from her. Or there are lots of apartments and hotels that you can stay in (some with their own gym facilities) if you wanted more privacy than a backpackers and/or are able to afford it.
Just excited to hear there are more sw girls visiting Melbourne. Keep us postedWe could even maybe have a melbourne sw fest!!
Just to add, also the search function might help as I remember reading stuff on girls coming to Melbourne in the past.

King St Backpackers http://www.kingstreetbackpackers.com.au/ for accommodation or if you are really adverse to staying in a hostel (even if it is a 4bed female only dorm)... there is Kingsgate http://www.kingsgatehotel.com/
Yes I religiously stay at King St Backpackers as John (the night manager) there and myself are good mates. Plus I love the free food aspect, being able to cook my own meals at any time of day/night, etc. Plus there are heaps of dancers that do stay at this hostel so it isn't a big deal. Most of the other 'residents' are easy going and chill. It's 5 min walk from Goldies and MGs. A little further for Rhino and CF .. and right next door (practically) to Dallas Dancers.

Ive stayed at King St Backpackers a couple of times too and its not bad - very convenient for all of the Melb clubs!
I also stayed at The Ritz Backpackers - got a room to myself and that was cheap but good for the price too. Its in St Kilda though but if you wernt working in King St you might not want to stay in the city.
I may see you down there as Im planning a couple of Melb trips in the next few months (-:

The dorm thing as anyone who has stayed in a few hostels will tell you.. it varies. Sometimes you score a good dorm room with people who are respectful and quiet during the day.. or else make some noise for 15 minutes then you have the whole room to yourself (quiet) for the majority of the day..... to the other end of the scale.. women who snore, they have full conversations with each other/on their phones, etc within the room.
To get over the noise: ear plugs. They work. They aren't comfortable at first however once you get used to them ... you are fine. That or take some sleeping tablets to knock yourself out
At least with the female only dorms they are usually only four bed dorms. Plus since you will be there May - June that is definately the quieter time of year for travellers... so you may not have all four beds "occupied" thus really are sharing with one or two other people.
If you can get it: specify a female only dorm room on the second level. The second level is carpeted in the hallway compared to the third/fourth levels.. thus can be quieter.

There is still plenty of time Lysondra
As for clubs, Dallas Dancers is literally right next door to King St Backpackers. Goldfingers and Mens Gallery are not even 5 minutes walk away. Your next closest is "down" the street .. Showgirls Bar20 ... then Centrefold Lounge and Spearmint Rhino the furthest away.
I've walked to and from work safely. Never had a problem.
Looking forward to the aussie sw fest! think it is about time i bumped up the relevant thread again... hmm...

Thanks Vee!
Ive emailled Mens gallery, and will contact Dallas Dancers, but Im really looking for a smaller place, like a bar feel, which is what Im used to. Im sure Id adjust eventually, but Im still a bit scared of the massive places!
ps subtle bump in the SWfest thread :-)
