Can you narrow the genre(s) down a bit? There were an awful lot of styles and movements going on between 1960 and 1979. I mean, you've got The Beatles on one end, the Sex Pistols on the other.
"Before I conceived you, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of life." -- Maureen Hawkins
"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott
Oh man the 70's is loaded with good rock and disco thrown in there too.
It goes from Queen, to ELO to Clapton back to Bee Gees and more...it is all good dance music.
Loved Abba.> Dancing queen. Hot Choclate.> Brick House.
Mmm. Cream, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (later on your spectrum). Try those on for size and report back!
Maybe a dash of Jimi for good measure...
"SWLABR" - Cream
"Gypsy Eyes" - Jimi Hendrix
"Wish you were Here" - Pink Floyd
"Kashmir" zomg - Led Zeppelin

British band you might like from that era was Free. Had reasonable commercial success (All right now, Little Bit of Love, My Brother Jake, Wishing Well), but also very influential on the bands that followed them. (Lynyard Skynard being a classic example).
For studio albums check out Fire and Water, and Heartbreaker. Also well worth checking out their live album - they were a hell of a band on stage.
Phil.
Some that come to mind:
Van Morrison
Rolling Stones
Edgar Winter
Bobby Bland
Cat Stevens

^ crizgolfer, Simon & Garfunkel just reminded me of 'America' and the music from Almost Famous. Such a good 60's/70's music soundtrack. Also the Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles and Elton John stuff from the film is really good.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Aussiebelle...that was a GREAT movie.
I just thought of another...Supertramp.

"In life, we DO a lot in order to accomplish mundane trivial things before we die, but it is in death and after death in memories that we will truly live, because it is in the level of care and detail that a person paints of us with stories from their memories and experiences with us that give us meaning."
Awww, damn, this thread made me have an orgasm.
Check out- Television, Blondie (the rare-r stuff), Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Todd Rungren, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Santana, .............Dang. The list could go on forever.
The 1960s through the 1980s were a highly innovative time for music even if the Top 40 charts didn't reflect it all the time.
I saw an infomercial for a 70s music cd on tv one time, I really wanted to get it. But I went to my friend's house one day and saw that her dad had it, lol. I love 70s music!

Sugarloaf - Strictly for charting at #7 in 1970 w/ "Green Eyed Lady"
BTO
Chicago
Great selections! Only one thing, though, like a more recent song mentions, "...don't Forget James Brown!" Godfather of soul. Hardest working man in show business.
Wow, Sugarloaf did Green Eyed Lady, I don't think I ever knew that.
Thanks, I got a kick out of this thread.

Journey
Kansas
The Ramones

Okay, 70's music is being discussed in this thread. Now, I may have forgotten how to read, or we are all morons...none of us has mentioned FLEETWOOD MAC until NOW.
