    Default I want to lose 30 pounds in 5 months

    I've been watching my calorie intake and trying to exercise. Ive just been doing this leisurly for my health but now I have an even that I want to look amazing for, and the sooner I can look great and just try to maintain that weight the happier I'll be.

    I found these tables

    Burn 1000 calories a day... to lose 2lb. A week or 104lbs a year
    Cut 750 calories a day & Exercise at a low – moderate intensity 30min. a day
    Cut 500 calories a day & Exercise at a moderate – high intensity 45min. a day
    Cut 250 calories a day & Exercise at a high-very high intensity 45-60min a day

    Burn 1250 calories a day...to lose 2½ lb. A week or 130lbs a year
    Cut 750 calories a day & Exercise at a moderate – high intensity 45min. a day
    Cut 500 calories a day & Exercise at a high-very high intensity 45-60min a day

    So, based on this I want to cut 750 calories (from 2,000 = 1,250 I assume) and exercise at about moderate intensity for 30-45 minutes a day depending on my schedule so that I can lose 2-2.5 pounds a week.

    I'm also drinking the recommended amount of water for the first time in my life and postponing alcohol consumption for a while at least.

    Any advice on type of exercise you can do at home (on the 3rd floor without angering the downstairs neighbors!) favorite diet recipes and success stories welcome!

    if you have any type of ondemand programing through your tv provider, there are lots of fun exercise videos and clips on there. i like them, b/c it's a lot of variety, and little to no equiptment necessary.

    If you're on the third floor why don't you do stair-obics? Great for toning the thighs and butt, too.

    Warm up - walk up all the stairs. Walk back down.

    Go up stairs at fast pace. Don't skip any. Repeat back down.

    Go up skipping one stair. Repeat back down. Do at moderate pace.

    Go up stairs at fast pace. Don't skip any. Repeat back down.


    Go up skipping two stairs. Repeat back down. Do at moderate pace.

    Walk up stairs, doing calf raises at top and bottom of each flight. Cool down walking down the stairs.

    You'll probably lose it in 3 months-ish. When I worked out that hard 5-6 days a week of 30-45min of cardio and little weight training it came off easily.

    Don't forget to weight train! I can't stress than enough. Yes, the cardio plan is important as well. You'll want to see how tone you can be after the cardio is finished. Plus, you'll burn more calories. 30min 3x a week is just fine for weight training. Its about 5-6 exercises per 30 min of weight training.

    I have an recommend The Body Sculpting Bible for Women. It has some basic routines with descriptions. Its a great basic guide to weight training and is easily changeable to fit your routine.

    This isn't a whole workout or anything but an awesome 8 minute ab workout that somebody else posted here a while ago and I've been doing a few times a week since. It's free and really easy to do at home in a small space without any equipment.

    oo! a great thread! i want to lose about the same amount of weight (actually, i could stand losing 40 lbs total, but i've got to start somewhere...)

    i'm going to try out those exercises...i live on the 2nd floor, so have a similar problem with downstairs neighbors.

    Yesterday I stayed just under my maximum calorie intake, did about 30-60 minutes of moderate/quite dancing around my apartment in the morning + some crunches and leg toning exercises at night and I feel skinnier and more toned today! I should probably invest in a scale and also start taking my measurements.

    Today I think I'll run the stairs as has been suggested and do the 8 minute abs video :-)

    Agreed. No reason to cut your calories to 1250 per day. That's way too low. It's not the calories, it's the fat. If you eat 1250 cals of "bad" food, you'll gain (or not lose weight). If you eat 2000 cals of "good" food, the fat will begin to melt off.

    I'm trying to eat healthier foods in smaller portions more frequently.
    Ive only been eating fresh fruits, vegetables, lean protein (I <3 chicken breast) lots of water, and whole grains. I gained soo much weight mostly because I was not watching my portions at all (like eating multiple cups of rice - which has almost no fat but plenty of calories), so being aware of how many calories are in the foods I'm eating is helping with that.

    Not to burst your bubble, but that's totally untrue. A calorie is a calorie. Now, if you eat 2000 calories of balanced nutrition, or 2000 calories of shit food, your body composition might be different and you'd have more fat, but if you eat 1200 calories a day of junk or 1200 calories a day of balanced food, your weight will be pretty much the same.

    This is one of the problems with Americans gaining weight, or dieting in general. People feel like fat free snacks are okay, and forget the calories.
