    Default Sleep Schedule

Anyone else here have a wacky sleep schedule?

Mine was completely thrown off when I was home visiting family, and now it is almost twelve hours off. Instead of going to sleep at say, 10pm, I go to sleep at 10AM. I am not tired AT ALL until then.

I've tried relaxation exercises, meditation, herbal teas, you name it. I don't consume caffeine on a regular basis, maybe one a week. My sugar intake is limited to my breakfast cereal. I've even loaded up on 'sleepy' foods (warm soups, etc) right before 'bedtime' to coax my body to sleep, but nothing.

I don't want to try sleeping pills. I hate what they do to me, and they cause my GI tract to do jumping jacks, waking me up anyway so I can sit on the toilet for half an hour.

    Ideas?

I was having trouble with this a few weeks ago where i would be trying to sleep all night and then not get to sleep until about 5:30am. I find doing exercise everyday really helps as long as I don't do it right before bed. Also cut back completely on sugar. I also stayed up all night and day one night and wouldn't let myself sleep until about 10:00pm and then slept really well until 7:00am, which kick started my sleeping pattern again.

Well I gave up fighting an apparently natural nocturnal rhythm long ago.

If you working in the clubs, it's not necessarily unhealthy to go to sleep at 7 AM, wake up at 3 PM, etc.

'Normal' people get up 2 hours before work, why shouldn't we?

7 AM is actually a bit early for me to go to bed, lol. But yeah exercise will help you sleep regularly, whatever time you decide you want to normally do it.

Now I don't feel so bad about waking up at 4:30 for no reason. The best advice I can give is to try to change it bit by bit. Wake up an hour (or two) earlier than you normally would so that you pass out a bit earlier and go from there.

I wrote a similar thread a while ago in body business like this. My sleep pattern is constantly out of whack and no matter what I do it doesn't seem to change. My bed time now seems to ba around 5am and I wake up around 3pm. I'd rather sleep earlier and get up earlier but then I'd be all messed up for the nights I'm working. When your doing this job its natural that your sleep pattern is messed up.

Try melatonin, its natural, and pretty effective. It even works for me, and I'm used to the hard stuff!

Aside from that, when you are ready to go to bed...take a hot epsom salt, put on an eyemask, and earplugs for your ears. Sensory deprivation helps me pass out, but not everyone is comfortable with that.

Although OP didn't say so, I'm assuming that her "normal" dancing schedule is nocturnal, and wishes to "conform" with her relatives sleeping patterns when visiting them. :yingyang: Going back & forth between day & night schedules can be a pita, often living in twilight zone. As I sometimes work nocturnal, I find interrupting sleep cycle early prior to transitioning to opposing cycle (eg, if getting off night shift, you normally sleep 6am- 2pm, set your alarm 11am, force yourself to get up & do activities, you should be ready for full shuteye by midnight. Drinking milk or other dairy products induces dowsiness to certain extent. Going back & forth between nocturnal/diurnal also gets one to be good at catnapping

I'm not dancing currently, which I think actually screwed me up because I'm used to passing the fuck out when I get home from work and waking up at a semi-decent hour. I'm supposed to go check out a new club tomorrow, so if I get the job, hopefully things will right themselves.
