My girlfriend's hair grows like weeds. She swears it's because she trims every six weeks. Is there any truth to this ?? I swear I trim as much as she does. Can trimming actually make your hair grow faster? Like, how would your hair know ?

The hair at the root doesn't know if the very tip of the strand has been cut. The only reason this may appear to increase growth is that you may retain more of the hair growth if your hair is damaged. Meaning it's not breaking off as it grows.

^^^word...
The reason people need to trim hair is because it is split at the end. This does stop the split hair shaft from going up the strand more causing it to break off half way up or look think and need to be cut.
Yes, getting the ends cut are a must. We will get some split ends no matter what, it's from wind, dry weather, wet hair brushing and normal wear and tear, not to mention the crap I put my hair though now.
Sure hair will grow as it normally does... from the root. But getting trims means the stands stay healthy and not split up the hair shaft/s causing shorter (it will break) thinner hair anyway.![]()
Some peoples hair grows faster than others, hers probably just has a faster growth rate than yours.
No, trimming keeps your hair healthy, but makes it shorter. If you really want your hair to grow super long, go through your hair yourself and trim off only the split ends. You don't need to get your hair trimmed at the salon unless it is very damaged.

I seriously don't trim my hair as often as I should and I swear, when I finally do get it trimmed (at least 3 inches hacked off)... people don't even notice. So I'm guessing it makes no difference, heh.

I also read somewhere that everybody can only grow their hair to a certain pre-determined length.
Like not everybody can eventually get their hair as long as their waist or knees or whatever no matter how long they spend growing it.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

^Yeah... I hear the girls all the time at the club whining about how their hair will not grow past a certain length no matter how long they try to grow it, so maybe that is true. I don't know... I'm half asian (filipina) and I'm pretty sure my fast hair growth is just hereditary.
That could also be a dietary thing?^ I was perusing a hair care forum not long ago and they recommend using egg yolk and honey as a hair treatment for growth.
Also, seaweed and biotin with a vitamin B complex (ingested) can help growth too.
I just gave myself a trim. I don't trust salons to do it because I really want to retain my length. Just a little inch or so off the bottom is enough.

No, trimming your hair does not effect the growth at all. However, trimming the split ends every 6 weeks prevents them from continuing to split up the hair shaft causing further damage and breakage. Conditioning the ends and refraining from heat styling every single day prevents breakage as well.
Vitamins and supplements may stimulate hair growth a bit but the average growth is half an inch per month. I like the "Hair" Vitamin by California Naturals you can purchase at Wal-Mart. I do think it increases my growth slightly. It has Biotin in it which is good for the hair and nails.
^^^that's what I thought. She's always saying if I want it to grow faster, trim it more. But fuck, it grows so slow as it is . I feel like it's getting shorter not growing out. I wish my hair grew as fast as my nails. That would be cool.
Trims - not hack it off!Id say if growing it out cut off 1/2" every 8 weeks. That way youre preventing splitting and it will leave you 1/2" of nice growth every 2 months. My sis in laws hair grows at least an inch a month. Some peoples hair does grow faster even tho the average is 1/2"/mo
