    Default Dissolvable Stitches Question

So when I had my surgery they said they gave me dissolvable stitches.

The incision spots on my abdomen and in my belly button are fine - they just had a band aid over then and I guess they did internal dissolvables.

The larger incision (on my pubic hairline) has been itching like CRAZY and felt like it had bumps on it - almost felt like a scab. So I kinda dug it out with my nail and pulled on it and its a freakin stitch - plastic and tied. Theres another 'bump' just under the skin next to where that one was and Im wondering did they NOT use dissolvables down there and that the skin is growing over the stitches?!

When i had oral surgery (wisdom teeth recently) i had black silk. They disolve inside the mouth or out of of the mouth i was told. White ones usually do not disolve but have to be trimmed and pulled out.

I think its normal to be able to feel the bumps of the stitches. The lumps will disappear over time. It took a couple months till I could no longer feel any bumps on my ba scars, even though it looked smooth way before.

This one was clear - like fishing wire and I guess my body was expelling it which made my pubic area itch really bad. I can feel another one down there. It looked like the ones I got in my neck that were non dissolvable. I see the doctor on the 25th but if these things are not dissolvable and get burried under there thats gonna suck.

Oh, I had surgery from an OB that wasnt my doctor. I saw my doctor the next day who said theyre dissolvable. Im wondering now if he was mistaken?

They sound dissolvable to me. It's not supposed to happen immediately, they need to last long enough so that the wound can heal, and are absorbed into the body. I really would encourage against picking them, especially with bare hands. Silk is usually used for sutures and i've never seen dissolvable silk? But I'm not a doctor.
When I had surgery they used (black) silk sutures which can be pulled out neatly, they weren't dissolvable.

^What I meant was that in my experience working with and having wounds, clear is generally dissolvable, black is not, but I haven't seen it all.

Dissolvable stitches are meant to last 3-4 weeks and can come in several different colors. (Helpful in complicated surgeries when multiple suture sites are involved so you know not to cut the purple (for example) if you are working on the left side of a wound.) Usually, the knots take a lot longer to dissolve since they are thicker and you can have irritation from them as your body heals. They are technically a foreign body even if they are made to be non-immunoreactive.

You are about 3 weeks post op. Call your doc, let her know you are having issues. Maybe she can work you in early.

I had the exact same thing with my BA, I just had one stitch left after all the others had dissolved... was kinda poking out and itched against my bra and it just kinda came out... no problems from it though, over two years ago now.

With my first kid they used dissolvable stitches with my episiotomy.
They never dissolved. *shrug* My OB said it was weird and it isn't something that happens often but it can happen. She had to remove them for me.
